Project title: “Reduction of rework and rejection in axial compressor rotor blades for Artouste IIIB. Engine by optimising process parameters and design” Reduction of rework and rejection in axial compressor rotor blades for Artouste IIIB engine by optimising process parameters and design” at Foundry and Forge division of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore. Artouste III B Engine powers both Cheetah and Chetak Helicopters. The Engine has side air intake, one axial and one centrifugal compressor connected to a three-stage turbine. In axial compressor blades the diffusing action in stator converts absolute kinetic head of the fluid in to rise in pressure. The relative kinetic head in the energy equation is a term that exits only because of the rotation of the rotor. These blades are manufactured by precision forging. The forging is carried out in five stages due to complex shape of blade. The cycle time is around 50-60 days. The high amount 20 % rejection and high amount of rework around 50% due to folds, cracks and non-formation, causes delay in on time supply of these blades. A detailed study was carried out to reduce the rejection and rework. AREA OF INTEREST
