ETMC 2017-2018
Case Review Specialist, Case Management
As a case review specialist, I had the pleasure of learning under the supervision of one (actually 2) of Tyler's top physicians about case denials, the appeal system, timely case management, Interqual, and the importance of correct coding as well as timely clinicals submitted with complete and correct documentation. While this took me far from the bedside nursing I was so used to, it was awesome to learn another part of what makes this "monster" of a healthcare system run. Although intense, I absolutely would not trade one second of time learning from the docs in our morning meetings, then going back and pulling from my cases and own knowledge base to work our cases (typically through interqual), all before the1300 deadline each day. Being part of the team responsible for recuperating insurance payments otherwise denied was extremely gratifying.
Southern Surgical Arts (Tyler and Palestine offices) 3-2018 -current
Preop/circulator/Postop
Clinic in the afternoons
Daily surgeries: after the patient was roomed prior to surgery cut time: Initiation of IV, ordered fluids, preoperative IV meds. Complete preoperative anesthesia checklist and monitor patient, administer ordered medications and monitor patient during surgery, chart medications in real time during surgery, assist when needed, recover patients prn, count and maintain pharmacy, reconcile all meds daily, maintain crash cart, order all meds and iv supplies. After surgeries are complete for the day and all nursing duties are completed, I do anything from laundry to end of day checklists, but mostly assist the docs with consultations.
