Education

Bachelor of Science – Mechanical Engineering May 2020 Iowa State University

• GPA: 3.31

• Relevant Projects and Courses

Capstone Design: Worked in a 5-person team on developing a suspension system for sponsoring company, Flexsteel, used in couches and love seats. Planned design that will reduce material costs, weigh less, and still fulfill comfort and travel indexes. Computer-Aided Design: Learned the theory and applications of computer-aided design, computer graphics program, solid modeling, and finite element modeling using MATLAB, SolidWorks, and ANSYS in a 5-person team.

Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Design: Learned about Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) in designing charcoal infused curtains for use as an air filter for homes in developing countries with high pollution levels. Obtained certificate of approval to use a drill press, vertical band saw, and horizontal band saw to build prototype.

Mechanical Engineering Problem Solving with Computer Applications: 3-person team that designed the card game Go Fish in MATLAB. Collaborated with team to write the script used.

Engineering Graphics & Introductory Design: Part of 4-person team to develop and improve the design of a coffee grinder in SolidWorks for it to operate faster and more efficiently than standard designs. Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory: Hands-on learning of stress analysis, hardness testing, mechanical testing of materials, welding, rolling- and manual-extrusion, CNC, and additive manufacturing. Worked in teams of 2-4 people to write reports on experiments assessing different materials.

Introduction to Circuits & Instruments / Introduction to AC Circuits and Motors Lab: Collaborated with lab partner in hands-on experimentation with electrical components and AC or DC circuits. Analyzed electrical waves in circuits to find issues and solutions to improve. Submitted in-class reports of lab activities. Professional

Engineering Measurement Lab: Worked with lab partner to study electrical components and AC or DC circuits, focusing mainly on charge, voltage, and power measurement. Wrote in-class reports of lab activities and analysis.

Fluid Flow Lab: Part of a 4-person team to learn and analyze the characteristics of how fluids flow and what effects it. Wrote individual and group reports. Used LabView for data collection and ANSYS to create simulations of fluid mechanics.

System Dynamics and Control Lab: Reviewed and analyzed systems and controls with a lab partner. Used LabView for data collection as well as MATLAB and Simulink for simulations of entire systems (i.e., timing, objects, motors, electrical connections, etc.) to complete experiments. Wrote in-class and group reports of lab activities and analysis.

Heat Transfer Lab: Studied the effects of heat transfer in solids, liquids, and gases, measuring such things as conduction, convection, and radiation through different materials. As a group, used MATLAB and LabView to complete experiments and write in-class and group reports on findings. Work Experience

Iowa State University July 2019 – August 2019

Undergraduate Summer Research Intern

• Researched electrically charged particles in polyethylene spheres when melted down in a fluidized bed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

• Found that when melting this material, it charges the particles in the material, causing it to stick on the walls of the beds which can be a fire hazard and stop work production.

• Validated particle theories through convergence and parametric study and simulated case studies using OpenFOAM (used for computational fluid dynamics) and Condo Cluster (high performance computing) on Linux OS.

• Discussed data analysis with professor and lead graduate student.

• Wrote report on findings and recommended solutions to this problem. Iowa State University October 2018 – December 2019 Chemistry, Calculus II, and Differential Equations Tutor

• Provided academic support to students to better understand concepts of the subject areas.

• Instructed students in small groups to enhance learning and prepared additional study guides and other learning materials aligned with course curriculum.

Iowa State University January 2017 – April 2017

Dining Center – Food Preparation & Server

• Assisted in preparing meals for students and followed safety procedures and instruction required in the workplace.

Other Activities

FIRST LEGO League September 2019 – January 2020

Volunteer – Planning Committee

• Assisted in the planning and preparations for the event that hosted 5,200 teams of elementary students that incorporated robotics and LEGOs to fulfill challenges.

• Set up awards and guided spectators during the day of the event. IMPACT (Innovators Making Positive Advances in Creative Technologies) August 2019 – Present Member

• Developed a design for the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge to take place next year. Engineers Without Borders August 2017 – December 2017 Member

• Part of the team that researched, planned, and designed a submersible pump to be used for water treatment in Ghana, Africa.
