Statement of purpose
For more than a quarter of a century, I have been a journalist and an editor. For the past three and a half years, I have been the Managing Editor of the Hindustan Times, one of the world’s largest English language newspapers. I have been shaping the coverage and driving the operations of the publication, which has editions across the country and about 650 journalists and editors all over India.
I am the author of six acclaimed books of fiction, narrative non- fiction, and memoir.

My writing has been a part of anthologies published in India and abroad. My work has appeared in a host of publications, such as the New York Times, the Guardian (London), the Observer, the Independent, Granta, Wisden, the New Statesman, the Sydney Morning Herald, and the Age (Melbourne).
I believe that my training as an editor and a journalist, and my success as an established author make me suitable for any job, in any field, that requires my abilities: close reading; writing; communication; rational and lateral thinking; creativity; leadership; team work. Anything that requires writing and communication would come naturally to me. Being widely travelled, I am able to feel myself at home in any situation and culture.
