EDUCATION
University of British Columbia May, 2020
Bachelor of Applied Science - Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Option
CO-OP WORK EXPERIENCE
Ballard Power Systems, Burnaby, BC September, 2018 – August, 2019
MEA and Stack – Failure Analysis Co-op
Assisted the Failure Analysis department on a daily basis by handling several material analysis concerns brought from internal (research, manufacturing, etc.), external and supply stakeholders to help improve overall efficiency
Aided the Failure Analysis team with material characterization and failure fingerprinting as requested by internal and external customers in support of benchmarking activities, aging tests and customer tested product analyses
Generated and analyzed raw data using high-precision equipment such as TGA, FTIR, EDS and SEM and performed data analysis to help customers improve design and processing parameters of the fuel cell components
Prepared and delivered presentations and reports to stakeholders providing interpretation of the characterization and analyses under high-demand environments including those that affected production and delivery of products
UBC Department of Materials Engineering, Vancouver, BC May, 2018 – August, 2018
Research Assistant
Tabulated data from a lab-scale aluminum casting experiment to aid understanding of the alloy’s contraction behavior and microstructure upon solidification
Translated the findings of experimental and software-enabled models to other industrial aluminum alloys with the goal of improving the experiment’s reproducibility for alloys used mainly by the automobile and aviation industries
Attained intricate knowledge and hands-on training on lab procedures and safety protocol within the department’s research laboratories
TECHNICAL WORK EXPERIENCE
PT. Indo-Rama Synthetics Tbk Polyester Division, Indonesia
Intern at Integrated Process Control
May, 2017 – June, 2017
Implemented Integrated Process Control techniques for Polymerisation, Partially Oriented Yarn (POY), Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY), Draw Textured Yarn (DTY), Polyester Staple Fibre (PSF) and Pet Resin (PET) production, resulting in knowledge gained on parameter control in large-scale industries
Translated learning of the plant operation for each process into assisting in normalising non-standard deviations from set parameters in 4 different factories with a total production of over 1600 tonnes per day, thus enabling desired quality operation
TECHNICAL PROJECTS
Scenario Planning Project on Barrick Gold, UBC March 2020 – April 2020
Created narratives for four scenarios that represented alternative futures for the global gold mining industry using principles of scenario priorities grid, STEEP (social, technological, economic, environmental and political) factors and the 2X2 scenario matrix
Curated four innovative strategies that Barrick Gold could make use of and analyzed how these strategies would (or would not) fit on each of the scenarios via stress-testing of the strategies
Investigated the impact of the respective scenarios and strategies on the future of the global gold mining industry to create a 20-minute long individual presentation that showcased the findings of the project chronologically
Capstone Project – Design of a Steel Plant, UBC January, 2020 – April, 2020
Gained an understanding of the key principles and issues involved in a steel process plant design that included an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Metallurgy Furnace (LMF) and Continuous Caster (CC)
Developed a logical, ordered and high-level sequence of design parameters and specifications for each of the 3 processes to ensure economic viability of plant operations
Conducted extensive research and performed calculations to shortlist suitable technology options for equipment selection, plant layout, power consumption and time cycle diagrams for the whole steelmaking process
Collaborated with 5 other group members to ensure consistency in preparing two presentations and two reports for our sponsor despite difficulties arising from inability to meet in-person due to COVID-19
Capstone Project – Gold Extraction Methods, UBC September, 2019 – December, 2019
Scoped the case study provided by our sponsors - Dr. Dreisinger (Hydrometallurgy Professor) and Dr. Paul West-Sells (President and CEO – Western Copper and Gold) to determine the ideal extraction method in the given location from three gold extraction processes – Albion, Pressure Oxidation (POX) and Biological Oxidation (BIOX)
Designed and performed involved hydrometallurgical calculations alongside another team member for heat and mass balances (using Microsoft Excel), energy flows, flowsheets (using Microsoft Visio) equipment list and costing, economic feasibility and environmental considerations for BIOX process
Concurred with 4 other group members to establish thoroughness in delivering two presentations and two reports for our sponsor stating the conclusions in the project’s assigned timeline
Design of Experiments – Variable Screening, UBC November 2019 – December 2019
Tabulated 2-level factorial designs with 2 and 3 variables in a team of 7 students before proceeding to designing the more involved Fractional Factorials and Response Surface Methods (RSM)
Identified the 4 significant variables out of the given 7 variables for each of the 3 responses within the team’s custom scenario using the DX11 software and by generating normal probability plots and identifying outliers
Utilized sequential results to run designed experiments on provided Lab Simulation (LABSIM) add-in in Excel as well as planned and executed a Central Composite Design (CCD) to simulate and finally produce a 50-page report on findings
OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE
SHAD Canada, Vancouver, BC
Program Manager, SHAD UBC
January, 2020 – March, 2020
Reviewed over 30 applications and curated a one-way video interview process for shortlisted program assistant and recreational director positions to fill up to 8 staff openings
