Looking for a position with broader technical challenges in the area of mechanical or aerospace engineering with emphasis on product design, analyses, and materials and lifing curves development. EMPLOYMENT
General Electric (Aviation), Cincinnati, OH September 2007 – till date Staff Engineer/Technologist
Responsible for the mechanical design of GE9X CMC nozzle, evaluation and disposal of MRBs, supporting analysis and engine certification programs FAR 33.83 (aeromechanics), designing and developing solutions for new products as well as modifications to existing products to meet market needs, preparations of technical presentations and reports, including certification reports, communications of results to internal customers, assures all applicable design standards and requirements are met.
As a lead CDN (Combustor-Diffuser-Nozzle) analysis engineer, was responsible for leading a group of engineers performing module and component level mechanical durability assessments (e.g. LCF, HCF, structural dynamics, weld, braze, bolted joint) of various combustor components. Work closely with design, materials and analysis groups on a variety of engine programs, formulate and implement plans to accomplish technical requirements, lead/participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and tasks and serve as a presenter as well as reviewer in technical and program reviews. Responsible for mentoring less experienced engineers and developing standard analysis practices.
About 50% of my overall responsibilities were directed towards developing material property and lifing curves based on the test data provided by GE materials processing labs using different phenomenological models. One of the primary goals of these projects was to develop phenomenological material and lifing curves for design spaces not usually covered by test conditions – scenarios frequently encountered in creep curve development and elastic-plastic curves. Have extensive experience in developing LCF, physical property curves, elastic-plastic curves and creep curves development for different ansys-based analyses. Developed a number of new methods for elastic-plastic and creep curve developments that are extensively used in GE Energy as well as GE Aviation.
Worked as a senior analyst in GE Energy dedicated to hot gas path (HGP) predictive analysis in the specific areas of stress analysis, fatigue and fracture and materials for a number of industrial engine programs, developing solutions to problems as they arise, supporting hardware owners in the resolution of analysis and lifing issues across the life cycle of HGP components (blades, nozzles and shrouds), including conceptual design, detailed design, testing and validation, and field issue resolution, execute critical path analyses, helping drive technical excellence, process consistency and rigor across the HGP Center of Excellence ensuring that analysis standards, tools, and techniques are adequate and appropriately implemented. Was responsible for building training materials and mentoring less experienced engineers. Developed a number of best practice design templates. Extensive experience in linear/non-linear stress analysis, LCF, HCF, modal analyses for blades, nozzles and shrouds. Was actively involved in continuous improvement process.
Led HPT airfoil stress/lifing projects for various engine programs. Performed 1D, 2D and 3D analyses using classical handbook solutions (e.g. Roark and Bruhn) and Ansys, e.g. modal, stress, creep, crack propagation. Worked on nozzles and blades for engine programs such as Honda HF120, CFM56-3 Classic, CFM56-5A & 5C, GE38, LMS100, LM2500, LM6000 DLE2, GENX. Worked closely with aero, heat 2
transfer, materials and stress/life communities. Interpreted results and made recommendations for improvement for better performance, weight and cost management. Developed a number of analysis methods (dovetail hook load split assessment, effect of grain orientations for SX and DS type of materials on LCF, stress concentration factors for over-drilled holes in turbine airfoils, crack prop in biaxial stress field).
Structural Analyst (DADT), The Boeing Company, Tukwila, Washington, USA, September 2006 – September 2007.
Performed various crack initiation, crack growth durability and damage tolerance margins of safety and life analysis of F-22 (Raptor) primary structures with the objective of setting efficient inspection intervals. Major accomplishments are – a) developed new, more accurate methods for determining stress-intensity factors (beta factors) for different cracks under non-uniform stress fields; b) developed a methodology to calculate life for certain aerospace details under compressive yield.
Vehicle Development (Safety) Engineer, Daimler-Chrysler Corporation, Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA, September 1998 – August 2006.
Led activities towards development of occupant protection in interior impact, e.g. Interpreting FMVSS safety standards, Crush space analysis, Evaluation of different crush absorbing countermeasures, Benchmarking, Setting structural targets based on analytical, computational and experimental techniques, Formulating FEA modeling strategy, Writing test plans and coordinating execution of tests, interpreting and analyzing test data to assure validity of results, Developing mitigation strategies if needed, Working with safety office and NHTSA for submitting compliance reports, Identifying areas of design improvement and proposing design modifications for cost reduction, Working with different product groups and suppliers and communicating results to the higher management.
