Work within a prison environment requiring a special ability for alertness requiring keen mental and physical effort.
Remain aware of group and individual tensions, alert to unpredictable behavior, and generally sensitive to signs of trouble which could result in injury and report any abnormal behavior or attitudes to the correctional supervisors or other higher authorities.
Initiate and participate in the searching of inmates, inmate housing units and inmate work areas to prevent the introduction of contraband. Skilled in the identification of narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia.
Prepare written reports such as incident reports, minor work orders, memos of involvement in specific incidents and accident or injury reports.
Supervise inmate movement and maintain control of assigned areas of responsibility within the institution. Maintain a working knowledge of radio and other electronic equipment used. Supervise inmates in living quarters and instruct them in proper housekeeping and sanitation.
Remain constantly alert and report observations regarding inmate identification, attitudes and behavior.
Escort inmates on local appointments and use the necessary equipment to protect the inmate, agency and the community.
Negotiated policy with the agency through the unions standpoint and to comply with the agencies guidelines and policy.
Familiar with grievance procedures from the grievant side.
Conducted meetings with immediate supervisors, Wardens and Human Resource Managers.
