Designation: Research Scholar

Field: Power Electronics

Thesis Titled: Multilevel Inverter with reduced number of switching devices for Solar PV Application

Description:

The principal intent of this research work is to develop an efficient MLI with good improved Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) profile. The research work is carried out in four different ways.

a) To design a fifteen level inverter with a reduced number of active switching devices and reduced number of DC sources.

b) To develop a single input multi-output DC-DC boost converter for Solar PV system fed MLI.

c) To design a hybrid PWM technique for hybrid MLI to improve the THD profile.

d) To create a hybrid cascaded H-bridge fifteen level inverter with single input triple output DC-DC boost converter for solar PV application. The first work involves in designing a generalized structure for multi-level inverter with reduced active switching devices. Further, specifically fifteen level inverter is analyzed with separate multiple DC sources and with a single DC source with splitting capacitor circuit. These circuits are designed using MATLAB-SIMULINK, and the output voltages of these two different circuits are compared and analyzed.

Secondly a DC-DC converter is developed in this work which takes care about the boosting and the balancing of the voltage level. This converter is named as “Single Input Multi Output (SIMO) DC-DC boost converter.” This converter is fed with a single DC source, and the multiple boosted outputs can be tapped out from the proposed converter.

A hybrid PWM technique is developed by combining High frequency Modified Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) strategy for an upper inverter and the low-frequency Staircase PWM strategy is generated for a lower inverter. Then all these works mentioned above are put together and integrated to form a hybrid H-bridge cascaded fifteen level inverter with SIMO boost converter to improve the energy conversion efficiency in Solar PV applications Projects Done:
