Project Title: Power Over Ethernet using POECIE Board Tasks: Philips has developed luminous carpets which consist of placing carpets over a Luminous Carpets (LC) LED tile made up of 16x16 matrix of Luxeon 3014 LEDs. The Poecie system is self- powered if connected to a PoE switch.

The Poecie system was developed by Philips Innovation Services for Digital Power Lighting projects with the ambitions in the field of Power over Ethernet and IP control for lighting. It functions as an injector. It gets data from the switch and injects the data and 0.5A at a voltage of 48V DC to a Power Device (PD).

Achievements:

I investigated the possibility of using Power over Ethernet to power an existing Luminous Carpet LED (LC) tile and to establish a communication protocol between the Poecie board and the LC tile using serial peripheral interface (SPI) to control the LEDs on the tile.
