Senior Design Project - Topology Optimization
The objective of this project is to use Finite Element Analysis to optimize material layout of a structure to reduce the total mass while retaining the same load bearing capabilities.
Team project with shared responsibilities
ANSYS simulation software was used for the static structural analysis and topology optimization
Multiple mechanical components used in the aerospace and automotive industries were considered
The simulation results were compared to experimental results obtained from a bending test performed on 3D printed parts

Critical thinking and problem solving skills
Work closely with team members to complete projects and achieve engineering goals
Creating and reading engineering blueprints using AutoCAD
Experience with metrology, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
Fundamental knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Experience with designing hydraulic and pneumatic controllers (P, PI, PID controllers)
Knowledge of manufacturing process and statistical distribution functions most used in engineering applications
Experience calculating safety factors for various mechanical components
Finite element analysis of structures and thermal fluid flow systems
Experience designing heat exchangers, heat pipes, heat sinks, and thermoelectric systems
3D modeling using various engineering software
