Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

Operated trucks that have a gross vehicle weight in excess of 50,000 pounds. Utilized the parks 10 yard dump trucks and 2000 gallon water truck. Transported various equipment and cargo safely through park roadways towed by the park’s International and Mack dump trucks. Ensured cargo is properly secured and inspected before each task to ensure all rules and regulations are adhered to. I possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement.

Assisted and supervised the removal of debris and snow off of roadways in the park utilizing trucks equipped with rock and snow plows during times of inclement weather. Assisted the road supervisor in prioritizing removal efforts.

Filled in for the supervisor during times of absence, led multiple projects throughout the entire park to include the refurbishment of shoulders, reconstruction of roads, and placement of hauled material.

Assisted with the maintenance of 110 miles of unpaved roads and 95 miles of paved roads located in all areas within park boundaries.

Utilized John Deere 310E backhoe to dig trenches, clear culverts, dig footings, and reconstruct shoulders.

Utilized Bobcat 185S skid steer to move cold patch asphalt for potholing, used the sweeper attachment to remove debris off of park roadways, and moved trash cans and picnic tables using the forklift attachment.

Maintained dirt roads within Joshua Tree National Park utilizing CAT 140G, CAT 140M, and John Deere 770GP motor graders as well as New Holland and John Deere skip loaders. Reconstructed roads to ensure safe travel of visitors within the park. Ensured all environmental and compliance regulations were followed during earth moving operations and stayed within the confines of all established dirt roads.

Conducted shoulder repair along all main roads of park utilizing a 140G and 140M grader to refurbish shoulder areas to repair past water damage. Utilized a Waldon broom to remove excess material off the park’s main roadway to ensure for safe travel of vehicles.

Operated and worked on steep slopes, uneven ground, next to drop offs, rocks, and buildings.

Utilized a Ford F750 water truck to deliver required water to four locations within the park to ensure water supplies remained uninterrupted.

Assisted and supervised in the maintenance, repair and service in all of the parks heavy equipment. Preformed routine daily services and inspections on trucks and equipment by adding fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, and applying grease to required components. Changed tires on equipment and dual axle equipment. Made repairs on small engines including generators, pumps and oil jacketed kettle.

Worked extensively with the park’s oil jacketed kettle to perform crack seal maintenance on park roadways and parking areas.

Assisted with regular sign installation throughout the park property utilizing hand tools, and posthole diggers. Assisted with the installation of more than 20 gates to be used during times of park shutdown to prevent traffic from entering park property.

Utilized a metal inert gas (MIG) and stick welding machines to fabricate 10 metal gates that are installed throughout Joshua Tree National Park. Fabricated 20 sign holders used throughout Joshua Tree National Park to inform visitors of road conditions. Fabricated 4 drags based off technical drawings for use throughout the park which greatly reduced the weekly workload for Roads personnel.
