Coordinated New York State subcommittee, including physicians, nurses, administrators, and pharmacists in developing and implementing policies and laws to prevent drug misuse in seniors

Training and Staff Development
Developed training that was presented to over 100,000 senior citizens on preventing drug misuse and abuse
Delivered in-service training and seminars to staff of hospitals, nursing homes, social service organizations, and businesses on health care and safety issues. Clients include Mount Sinai Hospital, Harlem Hospital Center, NYS Nursing Association, HIP, VNA, American Red Cross, Locals #144, and #1199
Research
Coordinated major national research project of Polydrug abusers in 14 sites on over 2,300 subjects. Results published in book entitled, Polydrug Abuse: Results of National Collaborated Study
Produced monthly cycle of computerized reports on all research subjects and wrote final report

Established a central resource and information network about drug misuse and aging
Provided informational material to hundreds of organizations and thousands of patients
Interviewed on radio, television, and in print media as an expert informational resource

Delegate to 1981 Governor’s Conference on Aging (NY); brought two policy recommendations that were implemented as part of the Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 (Obra’67)
