SUMMARY:

I am a qualified medical doctor, but I have always planned to go into the Public health field because I strongly believe that together we can contribute to people all over the world through this domain. I have seen, first-hand people dying from typhoid or measles, and it sickens me. Through proper interventions, planning and implementation of effective policies, I anticipate being able to bring about much-needed change through my work with an NGO or non-profit affiliated with the United Nations. I have gone through topics like disease prevention, environmental health, research methods, nutrition, and grant writing in community medicine which was my third year subject, I became even more enthralled with the subject. I also did a 2 weeks Polio Vaccine campaign in our local town that further gave a peak to my interest in public health, that have undoubtedly prepared me for a career in the public health spectrum; researching international health and community development.

My interest in global health in the field of public health in general, originated with my participation in an International Health seminar held in very beginning of my medical school. I went to seminar due to my personal interest in international health and wanting to do something to improve health globally. It was during this time that I was first introduced to the field of public health. Through broad range of presentations, I came to understand the vast disparities that exist in health, healthcare, and access to basic needs such as clean water, sanitation, and essential nutrients, and fostered a growing desire to aid in closing the gap that is present amongst developed and developing countries. At the end of seminar I was left with the clearer view of the path I wanted to take in life and the knowledge and skills to help pave the way.

In addition, I have always held an intrinsic belief that no one should lack access to basic needs and resources such as food, clean water, healthcare, and proper housing and sanitation. As I obtained knowledge about conditions in other countries I could think of nothing other than finding a way to help those who do not have access to these necessities. My ambition is to build a career in the global health field working on program in developing countries that aim to address issues such as health, environmental sustainability, economics, and social change.

During my course, we have been taught about the research methodology, My majors are Fundamentals of epidemiology, advance epidemiology, Evidence based practice, Communicable disease control, Biostatistics, Primary health care, Health promotion theory & methods and working with communities . During our course we have been taught extensively how to carry a research both qualitatively and quantitatively, data analysis, sample size calculation etc .
