Operations Management

Coordinated operations for a large scale distribution enterprise serving independent food retail customers throughout northern New England. (See http://www.agofme.com/)

Held overall responsibility for fulfilling and delivering a high volume of food products to grocers, restaurants, convenience stores, and other retail entities to support their daily retail operations.

Wrote all operations policies and procedures, produced training manuals, and directed a two week training program for union employees.

Led 150 employees, including teamsters and salaried supervisors, managers, and administrative staff.

Interviewed, hired, trained, counseled, disciplined, and evaluated performance of employees. Participated in hiring processes for executives.

Handled grievances, and negotiated all labor union contracts on behalf of the corporation. Chaired a standing labor management committee.

Developed, defended, and managed operating budgets of up to $12 million. Wrote successful grants for energy efficiency improvements.

Managed a 330,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art warehouse facility containing dry and perishable food products.

Directed safety programs. Ensured OSHA compliance, chaired the company safety committee, and conducted mishap investigations. During tenure reduced workmen’s compensation claims by 50%.

Directed all internal facility maintenance, as well as tractor-trailer maintenance at an integral garage.

Controlled the movements of 35 tractor-trailers delivering up to 60,000 units and more than 400 tons of

products to 300 independent retailers daily.

Wrote numerous articles for Edge, a trade magazine, and moderated seminars on efficiency initiatives at gatherings of independent wholesalers.

Project Management

Directed multimillion dollar facility and information technology projects. Examples:

$6.5 million, 60,000 sq. ft. warehouse perishable food expansion, and refrigeration refit.

Responsible for return on investment, RFPs, bid evaluation/approval, and construction oversight.

$1.5 million warehouse management system installation, enabling electronic order processing, hands-free radio frequency forklift assignments and integration with the company’s inventory management system.

Wrote system policies and procedures, and conducted end-user training classes on the system.

Project resulted in significant reductions in labor and operating costs, and efficiency improvements.

Instrumental in incorporating voice recognition software and hardware.

Installation of XATA fleet management software, an onboard GPS computer tracking system for drivers, with the capability to capture customer credit and order information.
