Roles and responsibilities
Job summary
To provide laboratory oversight in all Regional collaborative sites and adherence to standard laboratory protocols in the country program in accordance to the public health systems. Involve in training, support supervision, mentorship and team building exercises for laboratory staff. Directly supervise laboratory technologists, technicians, and Laboratory Assistants in running all laboratory equipment used in essential health care. Conduct routine maintenance and service of all laboratory equipment. Ensure that high quality laboratory services are maintained at all healthcare centers.
Planning and oversight of technical support supervision activities for the laboratory function for all clinics in the country.
Present regular reports to laboratory management, other laboratory staff and also to the users of the laboratory service.
Provide specialised training on the Quality Management System and Quality Management Issues
Lead in the development and implementation of a coordinated training policy within the laboratory
Provide professional leadership on quality issues for the departmental staff
Ensure that all basic laboratory commodities required by regional sites are adequately utilized, monitored and reported to appropriate structures within the region.
Oversee laboratory services provision and ensure standard and current practices are in place for maintaining high quality laboratory services and maximizing the use of all resources.
Provide real time and hands-on technical support in equipment maintenance and service for the sites in the country.
Ensure compliance and implementation of laboratory protocols for all lab technicians and HIV medics involved with lab function.
Coordinate and ensure that all internal and external quality control checks are done for automated and semi-automated medical laboratory equipment and their maintenance in all sites.
Evaluate new point of care equipment ensure to meet the external quality control schemes and standard.
Supervise and train staff in the performance of laboratory functions - both administrative and technical operating procedures with the aim of evaluating staff proficiency and performance
Participate in inventory control management for laboratory supplies and reagents under AIDS Healthcare Foundation/Uganda Cares for all sites. Participate in inventory audit, laboratory supplies ordering and ensuring that all items are delivered to regional laboratory sites.
Ensure the compilation of monthly inventory of all healthcare centers including generation of monthly laboratory out puts done and reports submitted in a timely manner to the intended line managers.
