Work Experience 1: Industrial Hygiene Officer (NAPESCO) - Aug 2017 – Till Date

Working as an Industrial Hygiene Officer in National Petroleum Services Co. (NAPESCO), Environmental Laboratory Division, Kuwait. Project Contract subject: Environmental Monitoring, Laboratory & Industrial Hygiene Services and other commercial industrial sectors, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Identify occupational health hazards in each task

Evaluate the adequacy of existing control measures

Prepare Health Risk Assessment for all activities in scope.

Cooperate with occupational health physician in managing occupational health and safety program.

Conducting various exposure assessment studies which include exposure to major health hazards like Benzene, Hydrocarbons, Toluene, VOC’s, H2S, Crystalline Silica, Inorganic & Organic chemicals, Dust & fumes, Asbestos, etc., in various sites of KNPC.

Conducting active sampling for metal fumes, Fluorides and Hexavalent Cr (VI) during welding, grinding, blasting, spray painting and shutdown works. By using SKC active sampling pumps.

Conducting biological exposure assessment (eg. Fungi, mold & Bacteria Legionella) for industrial and non-industrial buildings in all KNPC sites and Head office building

Conducting Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ) Survey for industrial and non-industrial buildings in all KNPC sites, Head office building, and other industrial sectors.

Conducting noise monitoring (Personal & Area) assessments for various Units of KNPC refineries and other types of industrial sectors (ie. Oil services company, Glass bottle manufacturing, Cement industries, etc.), as part of Hearing Conservation Program.

Conducting Heat Stress monitoring (Personal & Area) assessments and Illumination assessments for various industrial sectors (ie. Glass bottle manufacturing, Oil Services Company, etc.)

Laboratory Ventilation Study: Conducting ventilation assessment for assessing the performance and efficiency of fume hood and release of toxic gases/vapor.

Reviewing and evaluating various Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as part of the chemical hazard management program.

Experience in the use of equipments like Sound level meter, Heat Stress meter, Illumination meter, Vibration meter, NORM monitoring meter, SKC Universal Pumps, Charcoal tubes, filter cassettes, sampling for asbestos, use of cyclones for particulate matter sampling including sampling techniques based on NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) / OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) analytical methods, Direct reading monitors, Passive monitors, Calibration of equipment’s etc.

Knowledge about in National and International OEL standards. (NIOSH - REL, OSHA - PEL, ACGIH - TLV, KEPA, etc.)

Analytical services

Dust sample analysis using the gravimetric method

Identification of asbestos, fibers and types using light microscopy, phase contrast and electron microscopy techniques

Environmental Monitoring

Coordinating Stack emission monitoring in various sites of KNPC refineries and other industrial sectors by using TESTO 350 XL & TESTO 350 monitor. (Monitoring Gas Pollutants like CO2, CO, O2, H2S, SO2, SOx, NOx, etc.)

Conducting Ambient Air quality monitoring in various sites of KNPC and other industrial sectors by using Mobile Van monitor. (Monitoring Dust exposures like PM 2.5, PM 10 and Gas Pollutants like CO2, CO, O3, O2, THC, NMHC, CH4, H2S, SO 2, NH3, SOx, NO, NO2,NOx, etc.)

Other IH Activities

Determine measurements to be made, methods to use, and identify required equipment needs to maintain a pro-active industrial hygiene assessment system in a complex, chemical environment.

Preparing a report for all Industrial hygiene exposure assessment and AAQ & IEQ Assessments.

Maintenance and Conducting calibration of monitoring equipment, downloading data from Industrial Hygiene monitoring equipment (ie. Heat stress meter, sound level meter etc.)

Responsible for all file management and report submissions

Preparing industrial hygiene field samples (ie. Crystalline Silica and passive samples) for submitting to AIHA accredited laboratories.

Provide trainings, demonstrations, videos to workers to educate them to protect themselves from heat stress.

Assist various HSE awareness training programs for employees on industrial hygiene and occupational health issues in Env. Laboratory, NAPESCO.

Assist preparing the presentation on IH activities for HSE in Env. Laboratory official meeting.

Assist in developing various Procedures for Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health Issues for Env. Lab, NAPESCO.
