I have over forty years experience in electrical, instrumentation and process control engineering as lead designer and discipline lead. This experience includes developing control strategies and writing technical specifications for electrical equipment, process instrumentation and DCS/PLC control systems.

EMPLOYMENT RECORD

MAY 2018 / OCTOBER 2019 - under contract to Phyton Talent Advisers

Assigned to Core Molding Technologies, Gaffney, SC.

Responsible for the repair and upgrade of electrical controls and Allen-Bradley PLCs for hydraulic molding press and thermal bonding machines. I developed project scopes, created construction design packages, provided bid analysis from contractor bids and supervised the construction of the projects.

I designed the safety system upgrade for the presses, designed the rewiring project for 2 presses and managed the control system upgrade for the 2 presses. Upgraded E-Stop circuits to bring them up to code and upgraded two-hand palm button operator stations.

I designed the power distribution for a new water jet robot system and split the loads in the boiler room between an older power panel and a new power panel to improve reliability of the power to the utility equipment.

Assisted in the capitol spending budget planning by developing scopes of work and then prepare the estimates for the proposed projects.

I spent six months at a plant site as the small projects E & I design engineer/designer, with responsibilities from developing project scopes, estimating the projects, specifying equipment and instruments, completing the design and provide construction management and engineering supervision and project closeout tasks for various electrical and instrumentation projects. After coming into the office, I worked on projects for various clients as I & C lead designer, making trips to the plants to develop the design and lead the design team for the projects. During some DCS (Honeywell) retrofit/upgrade projects, I provided construction and startup support to insure smooth checkout/startup activities.

E & I Senior designer for the engineering department. I worked on projects as E & I designer installing new motors and MCCs, update e-stop systems for coordinated drive system film lines and programmed AB PLCs and controllogix systems and configured A-B Ultra series drives using Sercos motion controllers both for position control and torque mode control. Worked with Reliance Automax drives and designed and installed Rockwell Powerflex drives in coordinated drive systems using the A-B Controlnet and Profibus communication protocols.

APRIL 1995 / SEPTEMBER 1995 - under contract to PDI, INC.

for Beloit Corp., Jacksonville, Fla.-

Developed control loops, sized control valves and pumps for a pulp mill in Indonesia for Simons Engineering in Vancouver, BC.

NOVEMBER 1993 / MARCH 1995 - under contract to LOCKWOOD GREENE, INC.

for Nutrasweet Corp. Augusta, Ga.-

Responsible for efforts for an upgrade to the Fisher Provue control system. This included supervising the redesign of the graphic screens, upgrading the IFCs and batch controllers and operations used in the controllers. I also corrected problems with an acetic acid recovery system used in the production of aspartame.

Also worked at other sites in the Augusta, Ga. area for Lockwood Greene and also at the Lockwood Greene office in Atlanta for three months when the Augusta office had low work load.

FEBRUARY 1990 / NOVEMBER 1993 -under contract to FLUOR DANIEL, INC.

for E. I. DU PONT CORP. -

Responsible for instrumentation design efforts for an expansion to a polyester yarn facility. This included scheduling the work of designers and cadd operators and writing scopes of work as well as preparing project instrumentation estimates. I also wrote the Dbase programs used to maintain the instrument index and computer generated wiring termination information for the instrumentation part of the project.

Responsible for project design for an instrumentation retrofit and modernization of a chemical waste water treatment plant. The project had to be designed so it could be constructed with the facility fully operational.

Responsible for instrumentation design of a tertiary treatment stage of a chemical waste water treatment plant which included a three cell aerator and two clarifiers, each having a capacity of six million gallons.

NOVEMBER 1987 / FEBRUARY 1990 -under contract to CRS SIRRINE, INC.

for WESTVACO CORP. WICKLIFFE, KY. PAPER MILL

Responsible for technical specifications for Fisher Provox distributed control system and various custom software packages, developed control methodologies, and led the DCS configuration efforts for an offmachine paper coater, then led the instrumentation effort for on-site checkout and startup.

for UNION CAMP CORP. MONTGOMERY STRETCH PROJECT

Responsible for the redesign of the No. 1 stock prep and wet end paper machine control room, press high pressure shower controls, and the existing lube oil system controls. I wrote PLC logic for my systems as well as other equipment to be controlled by the GE PLC and Moore DCS systems.

Responsible for the design, flow charting, and programming of AllenBradley series 5 PLCS and T30 plant floor terminals. This was a pilot project for central engineering in France.

Responsible for instrumentation specifications, location drawings, and electrical equipment for a polymer storage silo and conveying system supporting a new bottle polymer plant. Also, I wrote the logic sequences necessary to control the existing and new conveying equipment and assisted in its implementation in an operating plant.

Responsible for technical specifications for the process instrumentation and the configuration of EMC D/3 and D/2 distributed control systems for a new chemical plant.

JULY 1985 / JANUARY 1986 under contract to W. R. GRACE CO.

CRYOVAC DIVISION, R & D GROUP, DUNCAN, S.C.

Responsible for the hardware configuration, software development, and the startup of AllenBradley programmable controllers associated with plastic extrusion equipment.

SEPTEMBER 1984 / JULY 1985 under contract to TORRINGTON BEARING CO.

TYGER RIVER PLANT, UNION, S.C.

Responsible for the hardware configuration, software development and startup of Square D programmable controller systems on various heat treat furnaces and ovens. I also designed a PC/Dbase based data acquisition and historical data storage system used to track bearing parts through the heat treat process.

APRIL 1981 / SEPTEMBER 1984 under contract to CELANESE FIBERS

OPERATIONS, CELRIVER PLANT, ROCK HILL, S.C.

Responsible for the design and implementation of electrical controls and instrumentation used in conjunction AllenBradley programmable controllers and Fisher Provox distributed control systems. I designed and implemented a new PLC system for the off line frequency control of five steam driven turbine generators and the monitoring of switchgear in a power house. Designed, supervised construction and started up Fisher Provox systems on Joy turboair compressors and York refrigeration machines.

JULY 1979 / APRIL 1981 under contract to STOUFFER FOODS CORP.

Responsible for the redesign and startup of various Allen Bradley programmable controller systems for autobatching, cookstation control, cooler and freezer temperature control, and fire and security monitoring.
