Senior Human Resource / Payroll Management

Resourceful, innovative professional with over 20 years Payroll, Human Resource and Program Management experience within two diverse industries. Held P&L responsibilities. Expertise in initiating projects that boost efficiency and productivity while enhancing employee education. A true Hands-on Manager with proven skills in analysis, organization, mentoring/coaching, motivation, coordination, and improvement of operations through policies that promote a team-based atmosphere, superior client services, creative thinking and a positive effect on the corporate bottom line.

Selected Responsibilities and Accomplishments

Managed all aspects of a company function including recruitment, hiring and training of a staff of 65, budgeting, P&L, scheduling work and strategic tasks, establishing policies and procedures, procurement of equipment and succession planning, client relations, performance evaluations and motivation of employees.

Boosted productivity through review of the five separate teams in the Human Resource/Payroll Departments. Identified the basic concepts and then restructured the function to allow for more cross-training and streamlining of tasks. Succeeded in developing consistency, reducing work backlog, overtime, and overall stress.

Development of critical process based on the immediate need for a Disaster Recovery process that would guarantee all company policy comprehension and pay all employees timely and accurately. Utilized the developed process for hurricanes, ice storms, system outages, system delays, task errors, etc. Process was immediately adopted and used by the Accounts Payable and Expense departments, with great success.

With the integrate human resource/payroll system – SAP, requiring key Human Resource and Payroll’s involvement in all system updates. After Information System’s complete testing, key employee’s within Human Resource and or Payroll play an active role in the testing of all patches, changes in policies/procedures, and improvement system changes. This has proven to reduce system problems when changes are put into SuccessFactors, SAP, SalesForce, etc in the production environment.

Enhanced morale through promotion of a team-based work atmosphere. Provided assignments of increased responsibility along with opportunities for additional training and challenging performance incentives that encouraged a sense of ownership in the overall operation.

Worked with an employee that had reached a jeopardizing amount of tardiness completely out of line with her past performance. Continual one on one counseling to determine the reason for her actions, the employee shared some personal challenges she was facing at home. We partnered to come up with a plan to help her get to work on time, immediately resolving the issue. This same employee was promoted 1 year later.

Improved the efficiency of a new Project Manager hired for the department by creating a structured training schedule for him to shadow all key task areas. In the following weeks he worked with the key associates with the oncoming projects in more detail and became an integral part of our department.

Review federal and state changes in payroll law two months prior to the company issuance of over 180,000 employees’ W2 forms. Implement addition training for each of the payroll teams, to ensure employees understand their responsibilities, and the W2 process.

Took on the troubleshooting of potential delivery modifications that may be needed due to the approach of multiple hurricane events. Committed to the fact that our employees need their money even more in a potential disaster, I partnered with Mail Services’ Manager and the Dispatch Supervisor, while expediting Payroll’s tasks to ensure all 34 locations in the affect area received early delivery of payroll checks.

The implementation of the Human Resource/Payroll Contact Center (handle calls and emails from employees) I managed the development of an access database. The database was designed to monitor the questions, answers, talk time, time called/emailed, etc. This provides Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting as needed as well as the perfect tool for training, employee previous question research and troubleshooting as needed.

Partner with departmental superiors to ensure coverage for our standard 7-day work week function. Initiate meetings to discuss upcoming payroll events, special processing needs and team time off schedules. Successfully scheduling the employees working, with each knowing their schedule with advance notification, for at least a full upcoming quarter.

Mentored an employee who had expressed an interest in working as Team Lead. Reviewed her work history and performance through her supervisor, and identified her skills as a good fit for a middle level team lead. Utilized proven succession planning techniques to provide this employee and others with the training necessary to attain the positions they desired.

Each time an employee’s pay is reduced, increased or changed by a request, the Payroll department developed and provided a one on one written communication to the individual employee with an explanation on what to expect on their pay including the reason for the change. This has reduced the number of calls and emails to the Human Resource/Payroll Contact Center as well as improved the overall employee satisfaction.

The Payroll department is the nucleus of a company. Containing a successful employee pay cycle due to the integrated system and the multiple human resource/payroll processes involved. Developing an interdepartmental resource team, including top Directors and Managers from key departments. When a change in process, policy or out of sequence event occurred, a meeting was organized to discuss potential departmental impact. This immediately improved communication on all levels and reduced multiple errors and delays.
