Focus on health promotion and disease prevention. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work, CT scans, and x rays. Prescribe medication.

Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, and diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses. Liaise with cardiothoracic surgeons and critical care physicians.

Consult and refer patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise.
