-I am working in Manipal Hospital, Ambedkar Circle, Jyothi KMC, Mangalore in a Medical Surgical Ward consisting of 17 Special Deluxe Rooms including one Kidney Transplant ICU Room.

-I had been exposed in giving care to patients with kidney transplant, post-operative cases like total Hip and Knee replacement, Hernioplasy, Craniotomy, Burr Hole, Laminectomy, ORIF (Open Reduction and internal fixation), Appendectomy, DJstenting, Post Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), Hysterectomy,Post coronary angiogram etc.

-Medical cases like Malarial Parasite (MP) positive, Dengue positive, Typhoid, Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Tuberculosis, GuillainBarre Syndrome, Convulsions, etc.

-I have been trained in administering chemotherapy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (AS A STAFF NURSE)

MEDICAL SURGICAL UNIT:-

-Consults and co-ordinates with health care team members to assess, plan implement and evaluate patient care plans.

-Prepares and administers (oral, subcutaneous and IV) medications and records it. Reports adverse reactions in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.

-Educates patients on surgical procedures.

-Records patients’ medical information and vital signs.

-Monitors and adjusts specialized equipments used on patients and interprets and records electronic displays.

-Initiates corrective actions and emergency care whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology.

-Provides bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre and post-surgery patients.

-Provides health education as prescribed by the physician

-Changes dressings, inserts catheters, starts Intra venous fluids.

-Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment.

-Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocols.

-Participates in discharge planning.

ROUTINE FUNCTIONS:-

-Administer medications and injections as prescribed by the physician.

-Administer intra venous (IV) fluids, blood and blood products and oxygen when required.

-Monitor, analyse and records total intake and output.

-Collect specimens including sputum, stool, urine and send it for medical analysis.
