Objective

I am an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist with a Supervisor License seeking full time employment. I would like to gain more experience and learn more skills related to other portions of the laboratory and I also have interest in the areas of troubleshooting and maintaining instrumentation and the Laboratory Information Systems.

Professional Experience

01/06/2014 – 09/17/2018 Saint Thomas Hospital Nashville, TN

Main responsibility Blood Bank Tech as such responsible to receiving, testing, preparing blood products, and performing antibody identifications for our patients. Products prepared where split PRBC’s, Platelets, and Plasma mainly for infants. Other preparations include Irradiation of PRBC’s, Platelets, crossmatching, antibody ID’s and titers for older patients as well as infants. Assigned and issued blood products, received and confirmation testing of PRBC’s, and responsible for inventory of blood products.

In 03/2018 I moved to the office and performed data entry for a while to help get physicians orders entered through scanning and verifying information so that billing could get caught up. Shortly after when scanning was getting caught up the Administrative Assistant for the Pathologist position became available and I moved into that area to retrieve specimens, enter reports, answer phones, some filing, and other general things until a replacement could be found. When the replacement was found I was moved to the core lab and began training on the instrumentation maintenance. I was very uncomfortable and under too much stress not knowing what was going on. It eventually caught up with me and I’m looking for a new job.

01/14/2013 – 10/14/2013 Easy Mobile Labs Nashville, TN

When I went to LabTran, the goal was to get the laboratory running again. It had previously been in operation but had many complications and had voluntarily stopped testing. While acting as Manager for this Laboratory, I have completed and verified the procedure for Prothrombin Times, established Mean Population Ranges and kept enough supplies on hand to continue operation. I have worked hard to get CLIA certification and obtained the TN State License for the laboratory to operate. I have applied for, tested and passed API certification. Due to the instrumentation in use we were unable to become CAP certified. Each month there were more delays in obtaining new equipment and all legal items had to be changed after July when the company moved to Nashville and changed its name to Easy Mobile Labs, Inc. I was informed that once we got in the new equipment that I would become a full-time employee and should be receiving benefits. When I resigned, the business had not met my expectations. What I am seeking is full-time work in a professional setting with health insurance.

09/17/2012 – 01/11/2013 Microbac Healthcare Systems Johnson City, TN

While at Microbac Healthcare, I provided phlebotomy services in the Nashville area. We were anticipating opening a laboratory in the Nashville area where I would be the Medical Technologist and begin the process of setting up and verifying the procedures involved. The company suddenly closed its Healthcare services due to many causes in the system. I received severance pay and took another position with a local competor.

05/27/2008-05/03/2011 BlountMemorialHospital Maryville, TN

At Blount Memorial I worked in the Chemistry and Hematology departments. I used many different laboratory instruments calibrating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing them. I did correlation studies, quality control, quality assurance, stock rotation and count, verified sample integrity, and performed testing on patient samples, verified results and notified the correct personnel of critical values in a timely manner. The main instruments in this laboratory were Beckman Coulter, Beckman DXC 680, Beckman DCI 600i, Sysmex 1500, Mini-Vidax, Nova 8, Fiske Osmometer,TLi, and Urysis. I performed manual differentials, body and joint fluids, urine microscopy, and stools for WBC’s. I also used several serology kits. My shift was days.

04/30/2007-11/16/2007 AtegraSystems Orlando, FL

For Ategra Systems I worked as a travel Medical Technologist. The only assignment I had was a duel contract at Blount Memorial where I later signed on as permanent full time. As a travel tech I did Hematology, Microbiology inoculations, and Blood Bank verifications. My shifts were nights then evenings.

04/01/2004-08/22/2006 HartonRegionalMedicalCenter Tullahoma, TN

For Harton I worked as a alternate evening/night tech. I was responsible for the entire laboratory for 12-hour shifts. I did all the Quality Control and ran the majority of the morning run. I worked alone until 2006. At that time I trained a newly graduated tech. I was given the responsibility of being Blood Bank Supervisor and the goal was acquiring information and sources for transformation into CAP. The main instrumentation at Harton were Beckman Coulter, Roach 700, Sysmex 500, Dade DCI, some form of urine dipstick reader and maintained the Corning Blood Gas analyzer. I took inventory for the core lab and Blood Bank.

05/07/2001-01/09/2004 Erlanger Health Systems Chattanooga, TN

For Erlanger I worked in the Chemistry and Blood Bank Departments as a Medical Technologist. I was responsible for testing the majority of the workload in these departments. Main instruments were Dade Dimension RXL, and Immulite 2000, TLiq fetal fibronectin, Triage Meter Plus, Delta CX3D, Axsym, Hitachi 917 and 747. Most of the immunology was performed manually and all of Blood Bank was performed manually while gel crossmatching and tube typing. Major trauma center use of multiple products for transfusion kept me very busy. I was responsible for the cleaning of refrigerators, centrifuges, water baths, and temperature checks as part of my job description. Erlanger is a high volume laboratory. My shift was nights and I usually handled my departments alone.

01/08/2000-09/30/2000 Taco Bell Sparta, TN

For Taco Bell I was Assistant Manager for the store. I supervised approximately 7 team members. I opened the restaurant and initiated preparations for the day. I did inventory and managed money counts. I dealt with the public and resolved complaints. I worked here only a short time after graduation from Motlow.

04/13/1999-12/26/1999 United RegionalMedicalCenter of Manchester, TN

For Coffee Medical I was an Admissions and Billing Clerk. I worked weekends on 12-hour evenings. I greeted the public, answered the phones, gave directions, did hospital and emergency admissions, verified insurance, collected money, retrieved medical records and did ICD9 coding.

01/17/1998-04/12/1999 Taco Bell McMinnville, TN

For Taco Bell I was a team member and served the public. I took orders, ran cashier, did preparation, worked drive thru, and handled complaints. I did everything from deep-frying to dish washing in the food area and everything from cleaning to mulching for the dining and grounds area. I had a flexible schedule depending on school hours.

07/01/1997-01/16/1998 Staffing Solutions McMinnville, TN

For Staffing Solutions, I worked two separate temp jobs. One was Pine Hill Plastics where I ran the plastic mold and trimmed the finished product. The other job was at Metal Products Company where I did assembly line and set ties. I also worked in the Print Shop at Metal Products. They would have really hired me, but this job was not what I wanted to do while attending school because the shifts weren’t flexible.

02/1993-04/1993 MedicalCenter of Manchester Manchester, TN

For Medical Center of Manchester, I had returned to perform Technologists duties in the hospital laboratory temporarily because they needed help and I needed a job. I did the best I could for as long as I could due to prior commitments.

04/1991 - 02/1993 National Reference Laboratories Nashville, TN

For National Reference, I did Flow Cytometry as a Medical Technologist. The instruments there were Coulter Profile II and the Beckman H. This was the main lab for HIV studies. Also I assisted the Dr. in tissue preparations for DNA staining. Work shift 8:00-5:30.

04/1990-08/1990 RiverParkHospital McMinnville, TN

For RiverPark I was a generalist in the laboratory and performed my duties as a Medical Technologist. This was a dayshift position.

03/1988-04/1990 Smithkline BeechamLaboratories Nashville, TN

For Smith-Kline I was an evening tech in Hematology department of the reference laboratory. I was responsible for bringing up the main instruments and having them ready for night shift. These were Beckman H6000’s so there were a lot of coils, fluidics, pumps, robotics, and interest in these instruments. I did other jobs as well but this was my primary responsibility.

01/1988-03/1988 WarrenRegionalHospital McMinnville, TN

For Warren Regional I returned as a Medical Technologist and acting Assistant Supervisor while attending school to gain Supervisor License. I took on Supervisor responsibilities briefly in absence of one and left when the new Supervisor started working. This turned into a 24-hour job.

06/1985-01/1988 MedicalCenter of Manchester Manchester, TN

For Medical Center of Manchester, I worked as a Medical Technologist Generalist. Here I also covered for Admissions/ER clerk during breaks. I was very involved with other areas of the hospital and did anything I could to assist. I performed charting, retrieved medical records, even cleaned out one ear in the emergency room to help get patients through. This was likely my favorite job, but it was evening shift and had call.

10/1981-08/1984 WarrenCountyHospital McMinnville, TN

Began as a new Medical Laboratory Technician graduate and left as a Medical Technologist. Generalist in hospital lab and this was back when the back-up system was manual technology. I gained expertise in Microbiology, Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Isoenzymes, Arterial Blood Gases, Serology, and Urinalysis and Parasitology. This is the Hospital I did my internship in and I also assisted the Supervisor in many of the tasks needed to keep the laboratory records and quality assurance. This was an evening shift with call position.

06/1981-10/1981 International Clinical Laboratories Nashville, TN

First job in medical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Technician and worked in the Hematology Department of this reference lab. Worked only briefly before I married, a job came open in McMinnville, and we moved back. Most of my time there was spentperforming Urinalysis and Serology.
