From October 25, 2016 – May 15, 2019 I have worked at Diosdado P. Macapagal Memorial Hospital (Provincial Health Hospital) as a Medical Technologist 1. I was a generalist in my first year of work, I can perform routine to complex laboratory test in Hematology, Clinical Microscopy, Immunology and Serology, Blood Banking, Clinical Chemistry, Histopathology. On my second year of work up until the day I resigned I was tasked to become the head of Blood Bank Section while being a generalist at the same time. After 2 years and 6 months of working as a Medical Technologist at Diosdado P. Macapagal Memorial Hospital, I decided to resign in order for me to focus on my studies in learning German Language to broaden my language knowledge for a better employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives written requisitions from Physicians for routine and special tests and gives charge slip to OPD patients and charge in-patient request in their corresponding ledger.
Obtains and receives laboratory specimens from respective wards and directly from OPD patients and log patient’s request in the Contingency logbook and Daily Utilization Sheet.
Prepares and apply techniques used in different laboratory section.
Records and posts laboratory results to respective wards and release results to OPD patients.
Clean working area and do other related tasks that maybe assigned from time to time.
Updates blood pool inventory and coordinate to other hospital if there is inadequate supply of blood.
Prepare blood components for transfusions by conducting blood group, type and compatibility tests.
Prepare daily census of laboratory census done every shift.
Check for laboratory stocks and inventories and request for replenishments from depleting stocks.
Train new laboratory encoder and new Medical technologists into different policies and guidelines in the laboratory.
Comply with different task given by the superiors related to the job.
Determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, and other body fluids.
Maintain cleanliness in the working area.
Receives endorsement from the prior duty, finished the endorsement and report it to the next shift.
Perform phlebotomy.
Prepare quality controls and calibrators. Perform equipment maintenance daily or as per needed.
Verify abnormal results to the pathologist.
Make reports and letters as per needs.
Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.
Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating, and completing preventive maintenance requirements. Performs and reviews quality controls in testing; decides if results are within acceptable ranges, researches problems and correct them.
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste policies &protocols and following identification procedures.
Maintains patient confidentiality and protects the hospital by keeping information private.
Check specimens for contamination before preparing them for test
Label prepared specimens in accordance to the information provided in the initial file and ensure that specimen bottles are stored with associated information files
Ensure that each process of analysis and preparation is documented in accordance to the lab’s documentation guidelines
Performs a variety of determinations on different bodily fluids, such as pregnancy test, urinalysis, complete blood count and others; confirms and verifies test and report finding to clinicians.
Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment and techniques of medical technology.
Attends to different seminars and trainings for improvement in the profession and service.
Performs a full range of clinical laboratory tests and examination in all sections of the laboratory; collects blood specimens from patients; evaluates specimens received for testing to determine suitability for testing; notifies physicians or nurse practitioners of rejected specimens.
Processes specimens into the laboratory tests and examination in all sections of the laboratory information system for testing; enter and verify results.
Follows established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, and reporting; maintains records of patient results.
Participates in quality improvement processes/projects.
