2015 to 2019 First Quantum Minerals-Kansanshi Mine
– Solwezi, ZM
Responsible for development, commissioning and maintenance of the optic fiber ring network for various control and monitoring systems. Responsibilities extended to installation and splicing of optical fiber cables, configuration and setup of networking equipment such as switches, routers, media converters, optical link modules for PROFIBUS communication, as well as testing of installed equipment using OTDR machines for certification, ensuring reports are produced and documented.
Successfully installed SCADA software on operator control stations, using the Vijeo CitectSCADA software package and interconnected each work station to the main server system. This work required knowledge and a good understanding of data communication protocols, networking equipment and computer operating systems such as Windows.
Implemented a wireless SCADA access system by installing industrial access points throughout the plant according to IEEE 802.11 standards. Also ensured that all LAN and WAN networks were documented with relevant drawings using AutoCAD Electrical drawing and drafting software and these were constantly updated after any changes made.
Represented the department in liaising with Superiors to provide full range of Control & Instrumentation Services and Support to Production and other Engineering Teams. I came up with a training module for instrument technicians in the section on key instruments application to ensure adequate departmental cover at all times.
