Provided health physics and safety support for the Radioactive and Mixed Waste Facility (RMWMF) for handling the radioactive, mixed and classified waste generated by Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque. The RMWMF is a TSD facility permitted by the state of NM. Performed radiological and hazardous waste characterization activities to dispose of waste types in accordance with the waste acceptance criteria at the Nevada Nuclear Security Site (NNSS). Planned open container work planning work plans for treatment of various waste types in preparation for proper waste type documentation and disposal. Provided quality review of characterization and other spreadsheets which validate the accuracy of the waste data.

Performed compliance assessment of Pantex Plant against DOE Orders 5480.11, 5400.5 and the DOE Radiological Control Manual. Submitted reports to DOE and contractor management identifying radiation protection program deficiencies.

Supported the transition of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP) to a regulatory environment suitable for privatization of the enrichment business and eventual licensing by the NRC. Implemented changes, which greatly improved the contamination control program for the site, established a rigorous instrument calibration program, and corrected deficiencies caused by years of inadequate radiation safety oversight. Submitted reports to management identifying radiation protection program deficiencies and made frequent recommendations of methods to correct these deficiencies.
As Team Leader for Radiological Instrument and Source Control group, developed procedures for the calibration of portable radiological instruments in accordance with DOE orders, program requirement of Martin Marietta and ANSI N 323. Coordinated the source control program with the Martin-Marietta corporate-wide source control program developed during this time to address source control program deficiencies.
Analyzed needs, developing specifications for procurement, established calibration program requirements, and oversaw maintenance/calibration of radiological instruments. Developed a source control program for the radiation sources at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
Provided technical support for the laundry and decontamination facility, including the procurement of a laundry monitor, upgrades to the laundry facility and implementation of changes to meet contamination control requirements. Provided technical support to the radioactive material shipment program.
Coordinated plant radiological training to meet industry standards/DOE orders and Health Physics ALARA program requirements.
