BIO
Erasmo Tapia was born in Garden Grove and relocated to the Inland Empire with his family when he was 10 years old. Erasmo transferred from Chaffey College to California Institute of the Arts in the fall of 2014. In 2018, he graduated with a BFA from the School of Art from the Graphic Design Program. Much of his personal influence comes from understanding his cultural heritage, ideology, and the Californian street and graffiti culture. More recently, he has been using graphic design to explore his culture and identity, specifically as a US born Mexican. He is interested in the idea of figuring out where he belongs in these two clashing identities. His work has long focused on typography and experimenting with typographic form. He is passionate about designing typefaces that are complex and intriguing, often conveying a mix of abstract form and solid structure. He has an outstanding interest in layout design, binding books, publications, and creating sometimes unusual but always effective narative systems. He recently has also been working on web design and is interested in exploring human interaction with digital design platforms. His other interests include identity/branding design, packaging design, poster design, image-making, UI/UX, and furniture design.
