Project Work

1. Title of the Project: Manufacturing of a Bowling Pin Outcome: There is not only a single thing, but there were lot many new things that I was able to learn from the above practice like selection of appropriate material for the project and others. But the two major things that I have learnt by making this project is how to carry different machining operations majorly on my own without anyone’s help and to give the required shape to it accurately.

2. Title of the Project: Design and Manufacturing of Innovative Door shutter opening mechanism

Outcome: Opportunity of finding a problem in the ongoing day to day life in the society we live in and also around us that are faced by people and proposing an innovative way of solve it and prove it’s applicability and feasibility by building a live prototype of it. 3. Title of the Project: Design and Manufacturing Prototype of Electric Casting setup Overview: When an electric current flows through a material (preferably a good conductor) some energy is dissipated in the form of heat due to the resistance offered by the material. This phenomenon offers a good, clean, and easily controllable source of heat, and is used on a very Name of the Student: SUMIT HEMNANI

OBJECTIVE: I am an Accomplished, achievement driven and best results oriented recent graduate student seeking a challenging position in my technical field that utilizes my experience, education and creativity to help the company grow and succeed and also gives me opportunity of learning the traits to work in a technical team full of new opportunities and healthy discussions. large scale in industrial and domestic heating. The object or work can be heated “indirectly” by exposing it to an electrically heated radiator or heater, or element. Alternatively, the object itself can be used as a resistance or heater in which heat is generated internally. Hence the electric furnace design and subsequently its fabrication should be promoted considering the abundant power sources, less maintenance cost and labor requirements. It is observed from the study that resistance heating is appropriate and energy efficient for a variety of metals in terms of cost and other parameters also.

4. Title of the Project: Investigation of Performance and Emission characteristics of biodiesel in IC ENGINE (FINAL YEAR PROJECT/B-TECH PROJECT)

Overview: The rapid increase in demand and price of conventional fossil fuel resources mainly due to Contemporary industrial developments and expeditious pace of urbanization along with the major environmental problems like environmental degradation, global warming, etc have shaken up the economies of all the countries around the world and have made it necessary for us to protect the global environment by developing alternative fuels comparable to the conventional fuels which can fulfill the long term needs and supplies of energy demand. Biofuel production from renewable sources is widely thought of to be one amongst the sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels and a appreciable substitute for environmental and economic sustainability by the scientists and industrial sector. Among these, biodiesel fuel produced from renewable resources proves to be one of the most promising and eco-friendly alternatives to fossil fuels due to its ability to substitute gasoline and also because of its biodegradable, oxygenated, sulphur free and renewable characteristics.. It is produced out of various feed stocks such as vegetable oils, fats, grease, etc. Process of formation usually includes combining vegetable oil with methanol in the presence of a catalyst (usually sodium hydroxide). Biodiesel is much more suitable for use as an engine fuel than straight vegetable oil for a number of reasons, the most notable one being its lower viscosity. However, it was realized that extensive utilization of biodiesel would tax the food chain and could lead to food shortages. Thus, the use of a blend of biodiesel with conventional fuel was suggested to balance its usage, which could still provide a beneficial greenhouse effect. The aim of the present study is to focus on the work done in the area of biodiesel and also to present a comprehensive review about the impact analysis of biodiesel on engine performance, combustion and exhaust characteristics. Finally, investigation work of the Performance and Exhaust characteristics of biodiesel in internal combustion engine carried out by us is to be discussed. 5. Title of the Project: KHOJ: A Social innovation Project Overview: Khoj is an opportunity to work on complex real-life problems challenging the society. Through field work, we try to identify challenges confronting the local community and create social innovations which are doable, scalable, affordable, sustainable and user directed by working in disciplinary groups and get a hands-on experience which gets discussed on an interdisciplinary platform. The cost of implementing social innovation is measured in terms of social benefits an innovation offers. Lastly it involves testing the final solution and documenting the problem- solving process.

Paper Presented

1. Title of the Paper: Evolution of Generations of Biofuels – A Critical Review Proceedings of PRIME 2017

National Conference on Progress, Research and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering March, 2017

SCET, Surat, Gujarat, India

Overview: The rapid increase in demand and price of liquid and gaseous fuels along with the compelling environmental concerns of society towards green house emissions, environmental degradation, pollution, global warming and other major environmental problems have made it necessary for the scientists and technologists to investigate and develop alternative energy sources which can be renewed. This will lead in reduction of world’s energy dependence on conventional non renewable energy resources. Amongst all the conventional renewable energy resources, Biofuels have proven itself to be a good substitute in place of fossil fuels in transportation sector. Ethanol, one such biofuel is considered a safe and cleanest liquid fuel as an alternate to conventional fossil fuels which provides unique environmental and economical long term military advantages to humankind. It is produced out of different feed stocks which are categorized into 4 generations of bioethanol production. The present paper gives an overview on evolution of different generations of bioethanol production along with the technological processes and methods involved for its production. Though the 1st generation feedstocks have been used for

producing ethanol from a long time, the need of developing new generations arose due to lower capability of it. However there are several technical and economical impediments in commercializing the newly developed generations of producing ethanol out of them. The conclusion that comes out of this review is that in future biofuel will definitely have a major impact in meeting the rising energy demand which is mainly caused due to interrupted supply of raw material. This review gives an overview of four generations of biofuels in terms of their biomass feedstocks, conversion technologies involved in them, their environmental impacts and economic performance. However, there have been difficulties in widely commercialing bioethanol as an alternative to petroleum based fuels, it seems that each generation of biofuel come with their own set of advantages and challenges which are required to overcome with the help of further studies, research and develop cost effective production technologies. 2. Title of the Paper: Bioethanol as prospective future fuel:-A Critical Review National conference on Recent Research and Developmnet in Core Disiciplnes of Engineering- 21st

Among these, bioethanol fuel produced from renewable resources proves to be one of the most promising and eco-friendly alternatives to fossil fuels due to its ability to substitute gasoline. It is produced out of various feed stocks that are categorized into four generations of bioethanol production. The current paper offers a summary on evolution of various generations of bioethanol production along with the technological processes and strategies or methods concerned for its production. Though the 1st generation feedstocks have been used for

producing ethanol from a long time, the necessity of developing new generations arose owing to lower capability of it. However there are several technical and economical impediments in commercializing the recently developed generations of producing ethanol out of them. Hence this review mainly focuses on the current status of potential feedstocks producing ethanol which are categorized into 4 generations and processes or the methods used for converting them into ethanol and its yields along with the technical maturity and environmental benefits or impacts using ethanol blended fuel.
