Skills
-Assess patients prior to surgery and alleviate their concerns. Monitor the patient’s vital signs to detect anomalies. EMR charting. Evaluate patient in postoperative phases. Adhere to safety standards and precautions.
-Assist surgeons with cases including incision and layered closure of surgical sites, providing exposure, achieving hemostasis by means of injection, manual, and topical methods, and application of appropriate energy sources, manipulation and dissection/removal of devices and drains, and applying appropriate dressing material specific to the procedure. Foley catheter placement, tourniquet application, placement of the intravenous catheter, and other procedures as needed.
-Assist to apply specific dressing material such as splints or casts, asses skin integrity, assist in the transfer of the patient to recovery if needed or directed by a surgeon.
