• S.A.F. accredited Associate of Applied Science degree in Natural Resource Technology – Forestry/Wildlife from Vermilion Community College.

• Certified FFT2, with additional NWCG trainings in Pumps, and Power Saws.

• Familiar with wildfire suppression techniques, L.C.E.S., and firefighting equipment.

• Knowledge of forest inventory, appraisal, surveying, and scaling techniques.

• Ability to utilize various forest mensuration tools such as the increment borer, clinometer, diameter tape, and angle gauge. Comfortable with forest surveying and measurements.

• Understanding of the environmental classification survey process, as well as soil surveys, and how that applies to information on Minnesota native plant communities.

• Comfortable with identifying northern Minnesota plants, trees, and wildlife.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to interpret and follow both written and oral directions, and the ability to obtain and record detailed and accurate data.

• Familiar with ArcGIS, and applications to forestry, as well as aerial photo interpretation.

• Use of compass, GPS, topographical/survey/political map reading, pacing for surveys.

• Ability to work efficiently both independently and in group settings.

• Familiar with MN DNR policy and Division of Forestry.

• Very comfortable in the forests of northern Minnesota, both for work and personal time.

• Wetland delineation, landform classifications, use of dichotomous key.

• Plentiful experience in a customer service, guest information, and public interaction role.
