Primary Duty: Work with MIS Manager to assist with repairing glitches brought on/left by previous programmer.

Set-up American Express accounting posting for transfer to/from SQL database and accounting software.

Helped with getting accounting posting up-to-date. They were months behind due to unresolved errors. Removed the bad postings and reposted month journal entries to resync their systems.

Work with the marketing team on setting the 2 servers up for their use (1 for production and 1 for QA). Keep Project manager, marketing manager, etc. updated on progress achieved.

Rebuild one of the 2 servers from scratch! The data (on the QA server) was destroyed and had to be recreated. Extremely intensive project required a lot of work.

Worked with the marketing department as their programming consultant.

Found and resolved many system issues as reported or requested.

Development tools & environment: Worked on site for first two weeks. After which, this contract assignment was executed remotely from home from company issued laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad) using VPN connection. HP-Unix B.11.31 with Universe version 11.1 Pick database, Putty (terminal emulator), and MS Office.

Became the very first consultant ever allowed to design, write the specifications, code and Q/A projects for the R&D division of ADP Team Truck in Bedford, TX.

Management Information Systems Director

Handled all aspects of the computer and phone services including the evaluations and contract negotiations. Also included were all duty assignments, projects, and evaluations for the IT staff along with assistance with business planning, concepts, and implementations working directly with the executive officers, users and customers.

Made Larry’s Shoes the leader in the shoe industry in sales and inventory analysis vendor reporting. Handled all software evaluation and testing. Handled and directed user manuals and systems documentation.

Renegotiated the contracts for phone and computer communication. Changed the existing serial lines for the computer to frame relay. Changed Internet access from dial-up to a T-1 connection. Merged 5 long distance carriers into 1. Upgraded the TSU/CSU. Produced a savings in communication costs of 36%!

Architect, negotiated, and supervised the installation of the corporate office NT infrastructure. Conversion included upgrade from a single NT 4.0 server to a corporate network running Windows 2000 software on an IBM 330 server (tape backup & domain controller), 2 IBM 340 servers (Exchange & File servers), and 1 IBM 6000R server (SQL & Data Warehouse server). The new infrastructure along with a new vendor contract for paper goods produced a 27% savings in paper costs! This paid for most of cost of the new infrastructure.

Handled the PBX administration and security. Upgraded various different phone systems to Telrad systems for easy maintenance and compatibility.

Management Information Systems Manager

Handled all computer services working directly with the owners and a contract programmer whom was assisting developing UniData database utilizing System Builder and Masterpack software.

Handled the AIX administration and security. Created the system back-up and recovery set-ups utilizing positional tape backup methods for easy movement of data. This was a major accomplishment when one of the unsupported drives crashed on the RISC6000 system. Downtime was limited to a few hours, and the data lost was redistributed from tape backup to the other system drives without any necessary drive replacement.

Taught the users how to effectively use the PC peer-to-peer network with topics such as security concerns, access controls, and accessing network devices.

Redesigned the network printer setups to take the load off of the small workstation PCs by implementing a network queue. This was needed with the installation of new Xerox laser and color printers.

Documented the computer system set-ups to assist with implementation and troubleshooting.

Handled the administration of a Microsoft 3.51 server utilizing imaging software and a McDonald Douglas transaction server with all the remote locations connected via serial communication lines.

Developed customized in-house computer software packages from the ground up. Various examples of customized in-house projects included an on-line active P.O.S. system with extensive audit trails, on-line credit card authorization and settlement, accounting & financial packages, A/P and payroll including positive pay file transmissions, TWC and SSA electronic filing, direct marketing and analysis, sales & customer analysis, purchase order/receiving, inventory control and multi-tier inventory analysis, etc.

Handled all software development and maintenance for the corporation. This included training and development of programming staff. Also included all programming project layouts.

Created serial line credit card authorization and settlement file system. It was offered for sale to other companies whom had trouble with the installation.

Created a multi-tier inventory analysis system derived from the ABC theory design in Infocus magazine. This system design implementation helped Larry’s achieve a 40% to 50% increase in their turnover ratio.

Met with the executive officers and users from the various departments to discuss the scope and possibilities of software and hardware implementations.
