Operator ( Operations Technician) -- PP role will report to the Shift Supervisor and be part of a dynamic and diverse operating crew assisting in the pre-operational phase to prepare the facility for operations. This will include tasks such as development of DCS interface, Factory Acceptance Testing, development of commissioning and operational procedures, development of training materials and participation in commissioning and start-up of the PP facility.
During the operational phase, the Control Room / Field Operator -- PP utilizes operational knowledge, expertise and skills to improve plant performance and operating discipline. The Control Room / Field Operator
Pre-Start-Up Key Activities and Responsibilities:
oSupport PP Operations team in the development of commissioning plans and procedures to successfully start-up the integrated HPC Site and allow for a smooth transition and hand-off from projects to operations.
oProvide input to project(s) to ensure the safe, compliant and reliable design of project assets
oProvide input into the development of standard operating procedures, operating manuals, spec and targets, etc.
oDevelop operating skills, knowledge and expertise during design, construction, commissioning and start-up phases of the project.
oParticipate and/or lead system commissioning activities
oAssist in all aspects of operational readiness planning and execution
Post Start-Up Key Activities and Responsibilities:
This is a rotational position. Post start-up the Control Room Operator will qualify in field posts and rotate through all positions.
oContinually operates DCS and monitors process displays to optimize process conditions through real time and data analysis (PI Historian) to ensure plant production and quality are maximized in a safe and efficient manner
oHighlights alarm management and/or alarm rationalization issues to operations and controls engineers
oProvides effective troubleshooting of process, product quality, safety, environmental and equipment problems, with understanding of potential contributions from upstream and downstream operations
oEnsure PP product quality targets are met; work closely with laboratory and analytical staff, and interpret product quality results
oCommunicate efficiently and effectively with cross shift, with shift crew members, and across operating areas, through verbal and written methods, including shift log books
oAssist in start-up, shutdown and maintenance activities as required
oReview and approve safety system impairments required for maintenance work
oParticipate and support initiatives to improve safety culture at all levels of operations
oLead and/or provide training to operators and plant personnel (control room training, field operator training, equipment training, procedural training, critical task training, etc.)
oMaintain qualification in all panel and field areas for the efficient and safe operation of the PP area assigned to, i.e. reaction, extrusion, purification, control room etc.
oIssue safe work permits for all maintenance work activity within the PP facility
oLead operating activities within assigned area of the PP plant and progress in increasing levels of responsibility
oCollecting and reporting plant measurements related to performance, asset utilization, quality, costs, yields, environmental health and safety (EH&S), production rates, etc.
oComplete detailed rounds every shift and meticulously record readings and observations.
oIdentify and escalate any issues that may affect the safe operation of the pressure equipment. i.e. damage, leaks, corrosion, temperature, abnormal noise, vibration, etc.
oSafely isolate (Lock out/Tag out), vent and drain, and prepare equipment for maintenance, startup and shutdown activities.
oUnderstand and adhere to Site and Corporate procedures, safety and environmental standards
oRespond to emergencies by following established safe operating procedures; participate in the Site Emergency Response Team as required
Education, Skills and Experience:
o10 or more years of industry related operational experience, with a proven track record in a control room operator position
oA strong technical understanding of plant processes and equipment, maintenance practices, process safety, safety instrumented systems, chemical safety, and emergency response plans is desired
oCertificate in power engineering (minimum 3rd class) with preferably post-secondary education
oStrong analytical and troubleshooting skills,
oStrong communication and technical writing abilities,
oAttention to detail and well-developed interpersonal skills are required.
oThis position requires the ability to work rotating, 12-hour day/night shifts.
Preference Given To:
oExperience using a DeltaV control system.
oPreference given to previous experience polymers/plastics production (preferably Polypropylene Unipol licensed technology), refinery, petrochemical and/or fractionation processes
oStrong experience in operation of reactors, extruders, heat exchangers, distillation columns, and compressors.
oIndividuals with pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up experience
