Provides leadership, assumes accountability for appropriate patient placement and resource utilization through collaboration with Carilion management, clinical, unit, and transfer center staff. Facilitates patient flow into and within the Carilion Clinic. Connects the medical staff of Carilion Clinic with referring physicians. Facilitates effective two-way communication and resolution of operational issues in support of Carilion Clinic goals and objectives. Provides support for all staff members while delivering quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach.

Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital 8MICU RN

Roles include charge nurse, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) super user, Zoll defibrillator super user, preceptor, mentor.

This 12 bed ICU specializes in pulmonary critical care, sepsis, ARDS, and pulmonary hypertension. Other patient populations frequently seen include respiratory failure, therapeutic target temperature management, and those needing continuous renal replacement therapy. Additionally, during the 2020 pandemic, 8MICU was the designated COVID-19 ICU for Roanoke Memorial Hospital. During this time, our nurses were also trained in the bedside care of ECMO patients.
