•Serves as primary channel of communication between shifts, for patient care unit and between departments during designated tour of duty

•Demonstrates knowledge of actions, indications and contraindications, side effects, correct dosages and routes, and nursing implications of drugs in the administration of medications and seeks appropriate intervention for the side effect
•Serves as a resource in assisting patients and families in understanding medications and treatment, side effects and long-term benefits; or can direct patient/family to alternative resources Identifies age specific health education and medication teaching needed by patients and provides same in consultation with physicians
