At self-checkout I am responsible for greeting each customer with a friendly smile and offer any assistance they may need. I also need to keep all scanning devices and scales clean, sanitized, and free of any food and/or drink spills. It is also my duty to be sure the customers know how to properly scan their items and correct any mistakes, price adjustments, or edits to their transaction using my personal override card. Keeping a clean, tidy, and organized work space makes for a more functional environment. Also, each machine needs to be maintained and operational. Which means changing the receipt paper when running low, as well as the coupon dispenser. Its is of upmost importance to be aware if anyone trying to scan more than 1 item at a time. It is not always required, but I myself will offer to help bag groceries and start up a friendly conversation. Especially the elderly. It never hurts to ask when someone looks confused or distressed. If I have the ability to help and the knowledge to do so, I will always offer up my time and assist in anyway possible.
