Mr. Bernard began his practice as an attorney in the corporate finance section of the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C. working primarily in the approval of mergers, consolidations, stock issuances, and financing of regulated motor carrier and railroads. Between 1973 and 2012, Mr. Bernard has concentrated his practice in civil litigation and civil transactional matters, trying to completion in excess of 200 civil jury and non-jury cases. These trials involved various areas concentrating most heavily in real estate and construction related matters, general liability insurance defense, corporate litigation, automotive law and family law. Mr. Bernard has represented clients such as Lloyds of London, Universal Underwriters Insurance Company, Shapell Industries, Inc., Signature Properties, Inc., Pulte Home Corp., Pleasanton Unified School District, Torian Holdings, Inc., Protective National Insurance Company, Pacific Telephone, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, California State Automobile Association Insurance Company, and International Surplus Adjusting Services in regard to insurance defense. Mr. Bernard’s civil practice involved representing large homebuilders, such as Shapell Industries and Pulte Homes. Mr. Bernard assisted in the purchase of land, negotiating contracts with sellers, lenders, contractors and third party vendors, as well as assisting in the entire entitlement process
