Started as a laborer in Orlando bringing Disney World out of the swampy ground, well points moved on and made labor foreman on a road bridge out there too. All of the BA's wives worked for me..bridge by Morrison Knudeson.
Took off when that thinned out and went to Seattle, joined Carpenter's...worked of a few tiltwall foundations, helped build a municiple Bus Wash facility, Symon panels. Managed to get a job as rigger at the Renton Boeing Factory installing the foundation for a wing riveting machine, inside in the winter! Finished there and moved onto a high rise office building, about 10 or 12 stories as rigger, Symon Panel gang forms as Rigger for Tower Crane. Long time ago. Took a position on a crew flying out to Midway Island in the Pacific, yes THAT Midway! Knocked down the old salt water saturated WW2 Concrete and formed and poured new concrete on the existing structural I beams, then formed and poured the decks! Fun great job. n' at my pictures and my bonuses! Great guy to work for know my way around a project site. Not begging anyone for a job I've never seen demand like this! They didn't give me those thousands of dollars for not performing! Critical elements of deciding on a particular contractor are often made at the prebid Job walk. I've been lucky enough to have engineers wait for my price. Once when I had the flu, I think it was Dallas, and I got the job! There is a sale made many times at the prebid! I was lucky enough to cut my estimating teeth working as Estimator for a past President of the ASPE, Frank Young of Champion Construction here in San Diego, a great guy to work for under his Senior Estimator Paul Martis, another excellant senior Estimator!
