Responsible for a variety of venipuncture techniques involving the collection of blood specimens from patients for lab procedures and used in diagnosis. This was a fast paced hospital setting with 710 beds. I was responsible for 39 to 45 blood draws per day. Occasionally the number would be greater depending on the staff turnout for that shift. I worked a 3 day 12 hour shift on one week and a 4 day 12 hour shift on the next.

Clinic setting that provided service to the Richmond County area 20 to 25 patients per day.
My externship lasted for 4 weeks, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. I was taught to centrifuge blood specimens, use venipuncture, dermal puncture technique, urinalysis, chain of custody for drug tests. It was a fast-paced clinic. I have completed estimated 100 blood draws that consists of both venipunctures and dermal punctures. After my externship I stayed with the health department volunteering as a phlebotomist for a few months.
