Mission
Farm Marche-EB Canada is a working farm as well as a research facility and learning
enterprise. The Farm includes approximately 2,000 acres of cropland, livestock
(cowicalf herd, feedlot, sheep flock, and horses), along with handling facilities, barns,
and equipment. Under the general supervision of the Smart Farm Manager and
Technology Access Centre Manager, the Farm Worker will ensure that his/her duties are
performed in a safe, effective and efficient manner. Responsibilities will include care
and feeding of livestock setting-up and assisting with labs for students, assisting with
research projects on the farm, and general cleaning and minor maintenance of facilities
and equipment and all other related duties.
Responsibilities
* Record information about crops, such as pesticide use, yields, or costs.
* Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment.
* Dig and plant seeds, or transplant seediings by hand
* Harvest fruits and vegetables by hand
* Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of
pesticides and fertilizers.
* Inform farmers or farm managers of crop progress.
* Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities.
* Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow,
harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops.
* Repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures.
* Set up and operate irrigation equipment.
* Apply pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to crops.
* Clear and maintain irrigation ditches.
* Direct and monitor the work of casual and seasonal help during planting and
harvesting
Renumeration
$14 - $20 per hour
