Women & Infants Hospital, Providence, RI, Program for Women’s Oncology: Research Assistant (July 2015- June 2017)

• Independently tasked with creating and managing a Gynecologic Cancer Biospecimen Bank involving multiple types of biospecimen collection for over 130 patients (4000 specimens comprising various grades of 8 primary cancers).

• Enrolled newly diagnosed patients in research study; explained study protocol, expectations and associated risks through a formal Informed Consent process.

• Responsible for patient tracking and follow-up lab-work for all enrolled patients.

• Coordinated interdepartmental efforts across multiple hospital constituencies to ensure surgical specimens were collected and processed appropriately (representatives included OR staff, attending physicians, residents/fellows, pathologists, and the Program in Women’s Oncology Research team).

• Participated in pharmacokinetic analyses of two Phase I studies by collecting and processing blood samples at precise intervals over the course of administration/infusion in an in-patient setting with an awareness for potential hypersensitivity reactions.

• Coordinated sensitive data collection, survey administration and followup for a large multicenter, longitudinal, quality of life assessment of women with concomitant urinary incontinence and endometrial cancer. My work required communicating and discussing sensitive and personal material with patients in great detail, including lengthy surveys about her perception of the social, personal, sexual, and functional impact of her urinary incontinence (45 min/patient x 4). Patients were paid for their time and surveys, so I was also responsible for properly addressing, administering and logging money orders and cash reimbursements for the department.
