●Deputy Sheriffs must work a variety of shifts and lead, supervise and interact with individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds in a variety of unique situations.

●Performs entry-level to full performance level protective services work for Denver County by providing for the security, care, custody and safety of Denver County inmates and the public in detention, medical, court and transportation settings.

●Enforces departmental and post orders to ensure inmate security in detention, medical, court and transportation settings including activities such as conducting inspections for contraband, maintenance and safety hazards, taking charge of work details and observing inmate health and behavior and controlling movement of inmates and the public within the facility.

●Transports inmates between detention centers, police stations, courts, medical facilities and other destinations.

●Verifies inmate identity, authority to transport and confirms proposed route of travel.

●Processes inmates for book-in by reviewing inmate charges, court orders and legal status to ensure proper custody and disposition and prepares records for necessary classification.

●Inventories and receipts for inmate property and personal clothing and for equipment, supplies, uniforms, keys and weapons.

●Computes good time and release dates, informs inmates of means of release and detention policies and verifies satisfaction of all charges.

●Prepares and processes work release orders, bonds, census reports and other records and reports.

●Investigates fights, theft, accidents and other incidents occurring within the institution by preserving the crime scene and maintaining the chain of evidence.

●Provides testimony in court.

●Requires meeting certification standards and qualifications in the use of firearms and other tactical weapons.

● Medical Support Assistants provide administrative and clerical support functions in Health Administration Service (HAS) for inpatient wards and outpatient clinics or one of the Community Based Outpatient Clinics, supporting a broad range of clinical services. Services are provided in a variety of inpatient settings including medical, surgical, intensive care, intermediate, behavioral health or nursing home care units. ACHIEVEMENTS

CSI INSPECTOR:

Per VHA DIRECTIVE 1108.02(1) and MCM “Inspection of controlled substances”

Controlled Substance Inspector. The CSI is responsible for:

(1)Conducting random, unannounced inspections as assigned by the CSC or alternate CSC

pursuant to the requirements of this directive (see paragraphs 5 through 8) and local policy. The physical inventory of the controlled substance storage area must be completed on the day it is initiated. Other requirements for the controlled substance storage area such as verification of provider orders or hard copy prescriptions may be completed on a separate day.

(2)Completing the inspection report as defined in local policy and submitting to the CSC or alternate CSC. The inspection report must include all identified discrepancies as well as identified areas of vulnerability.

(3)Ensuring that all assigned inspections are completed by the end of the month or by the due date assigned by the CSC or alternate CSC.

(4)Notifying the CSC or the alternate CSC and the inspection area manager (e.g., nurse manager, charge nurse, clinic/unit supervisor, Pharmacy Chief/supervisor, CMOP Director) on the day of the inspection of any unresolved discrepancies.

5) Chart Audit: In the inpatient or clinic setting, the CSI must verify there is a hard copy order (electronic or written) in the patient’s medical record, there is documentation of administration, and documentation of 2 signatures for any wasting of partial doses for five randomly selected dispensing activities. If there are less than five dispensing activities for the previous 30 days, all orders must be reviewed. (1) For controlled substance storage areas with more than one ADC, the requirement is to review five orders for each ADC to a maximum of 20 orders. NOTE: For example, if the Operating Suite has 3 ADCs, 15 dispensing activities should be reviewed, five from each ADC. However, if the Operating Suite has 10 ADCs, 20 dispensing activities should be reviewed. In addition, the 20 dispensing activities should include at least 1 from each ADC.

(2)The dispensing activities should be randomly chosen from the appropriate ADC transaction report.

(3)For controlled substance storage areas that do not have ADCs, the five dispensing activities should be randomly chosen from the entries on VA Form 10-2638, “Controlled Substance

Administration Record.”

d. The CSI must verify staff inventories are completed as required in local policy

(e.g., daily, weekly, change of shift, etc.) then the CSI should verify all the required inventories

were completed.)
