1. Is the Food Handler’s Certificate a condition of employment?
Yes, a current valid Food Handler Certificate is a condition of employment in TEXAS
New employees have 30 days for certification if they currently don’t have a certificate
2. What is covered during the training and the test?
Foodborne illnesses
Time and temperature control
Personal hygiene and food
safety
Reporting personal illness/symptoms
Food contamination prevention
Cleaning and sanitizing procedures
Cross-contamination prevention
3. How long is the certification valid?
The Food Handler certification is valid for 2 years
It must be renewed every 2 years before it expires 4. Where can I get a certificate?
Online class and certification available through multiple websites
Self-paced learning process / short multiple-choice Quiz
Usually allowed to retake Quiz if you do not pass the first time
