Objective:
Detail-oriented art object handling and fabrication professional with extensive experience in site specific handling and building trades, seeking an integral role within a thriving organization that utilizes my knowledge of material handling and project coordination acquired through adventurous work experiences.
I began working in fabrication and art handling apprenticing myself to residential remodeling businesses that did not have apprenticeships and who did not usually hire women or lgbtqi people and evolved to working in museums, for architectural restoration contractors and for individual artist studios. All of these experiences have helped me practice and develop written and verbal communication and transferable technical, problem solving and organizational practices. My professional developmen relies on material handling with fork and scissor lifts, single human lifts, rigging systems and manual and electric pallet handlers. I have successful training in planning and execution of projects moving valuable materials with best safety practices. I am skilled at spatial organizing and safety, purchasing, time management, communication and strategizing for accuracy and material specific details. I have expertise but continue to invest in team building, learning and listening, tool maintenance, sustainable work techniques and instruction.
History:
For the last 9 years I have worked in museums interpreting and contributing to project planning and supervising/supporting fabrication and art handling teams to install large scale sculptural and environmental installations operating pallet handlers and lifts. Scope of work usually includes load in and load out of large crates, demolition, build and install of temporary structural walls, rigging and install systems, for 4 shows per year, consistently meeting deadlines and budgetary constraints. I maintain Scissor Lift and CPR certifications. My education includes a BFA and Masters Degrees in Sculpture, and an MA in Visual Culture/Critical Studies.
Skills: I concurrently have volunteered for many years in emergency/disaster food preparation and disaster nutrition projects where palletized volumes of supplies are moved to feed an average of 3,000 people within a 4 hour period. Since 2015, I have worked as fabrication supervisor for Exhibitions at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. My goals include expansive tool certification and training in project management, Rhino and CAD, ongoing growth in communication, welding and blacksmithing and machine maintenance. I focus on working with the strengths and constraints of an organization's mission, budgets, tools, materials and the people that make it happen.
