Career highlights:
Graceland University: Graceland University Track and Field Coach for 5 years, we achieved lots of Conference Champions, Runner Up Conference Champions, National Qualifiers, All Americans and Runner Up National Champion. We did very well in recruiting from a team when I arrived we had 15 athletes in 2 years time we had 84 athletes. Which is not easy to do in the city of Lamono and competing against other larger universities that are established in larger cities.
Retail Jewelry: I’ve been in Retail Jewelry sales & management for 20 years, was the Top salesperson. I had won many Incentive Trips and was in the Top 1-5% of Salespersons dependin on the Company goals. I have a strong background in sales, marketing, recruiting, managing & recognizing talent.
Marketing positions: I worked for Johannes Marketing Group (my Dad’s company), my title was Marketing Executive Account Manager. I oversaw a number of accounts to market their companies through flyers, print ads, radio, television and word of mouth. I worked for IBM in Phoenix, my job title was Integrated Marketing Infrastructure Manager. I was part of the Co Management team for the dept. As I sold over 3 million $$$ worth of Classes & Seminars in the 4th quarter which usually was our worst quarter for sales. I worked for MCI in Phoenix, my job title was outbound sales and then moved to outdoor sales. I was one of the top sales employees in the Phoenix branch. We had over 600 sales people in our branch.
Hinckley & Schmitt in Phoenix, my job title was Route sales and was the Top Salesperson for our Az Warehouse and one of the Top Sales people in the Region. I’ve worked in the Fitness Industry for over 30 years; I did management for probably half that time. I also sold Gym memberships, Personal Training packages, Nutritional packages, Supplements, clothing & etc...I’ve been running my own personal training business for many years when I didn’t work for a gym. I would train athlete’s and clients to help better themselves mentally and physically.
What I wrote above is just some of my career highlights. I really enjoyed Graceland University and I know I can do more than what I’m doing now for the University. Before I started I was led to believe that I would be a Full-time Coach of Track & Field. When I started I was told that if we took 3rd place in Men & Women in the Conference that a Full time position would definitely happen because we took last for both genders the year before I got there. Guess what; we took 3rd Indoor Conference after me being there 3 months. Unfortunately they said I had to wait until after Outdoor season. They gave us a number of recruits & we exceeded that amount, so for sure I & the Head Coach thought I would be given a Full time coaching position for having Conference Champions, National Qualifiers & All American, the following year we got the track team nationally ranked as high as 14th and that is the highest the team has ever been ranked and never was ranked in the nation’s top 25 before. Unfortunately everytime we were told to do something we would meet their expectations but no position came out of it, so the Head Coach left. I’m hoping one day soon a full time position would be offered to me as I know I can really help take this track and field team to whole another level. I keep having coaches talk to me & presenting offers from other schools especially during the summer time but I turn them down to stay here. I’ve got 4 kids here and I have another one on the way in the Fall. You probably don’t know this but I have 7 kids. My oldest who works @ Univ. of Iowa, my triplets, Jacob and Alaina who are about to go there and my youngest who is a huge yellow jacket fan!
I truly believe with my sales, recruiting and marketing skills I can help Graceland University here in Des Moines for students to become more of a college of their choice like Iowa State, Univ. of Iowa, UNI, Drake, Grandview & DMACC. I’m not sure if it would be considered an Admissions Counselor position or recruiter. I could recruit students, all sports athletes, drama, etc… I could go to surrounding high schools In Des Moines & suburbs and set up a Graceland University booth for 2.5 hours each day 2 schools a day. This would really get our name out there. They should be considered their school of choice. Also I had an idea a while back but not knowing why anyone didn’t follow through with what I said. I could always sit down and talk with you about it. I have lots of brainstorming ideas. I know some of the alum and board members loved what I had for ideas & I knew it would work as it worked with Johannes Marketing & IBM. Thank you,
Jeff Johannes
