OBJECTIVE: I am seeking to obtain a position within the healthcare industry that will allow me to use the experience that I obtained as a floor nurse with the skills that I have learned while earning my bachelor’s degree. I am looking for a challenging position that will allow for further growth as a nurse.

EXPERIENCE: FEBRUARY, 2017 – PRESENT

I was involved in a work injury in February, 2017 which resulted in having to have reconstructive surgery in both of my ankles. Due to the length of time for the recovery from the surgeries and the physical therapy rehabilitation, I have not been able to work in a formal healthcare setting. I have obtained several certificates with continuing education courses in order to maintain a good standing with the nursing license. I have spent time doing phone triage for the American Red Cross as a volunteer. I also am the President of a 501c3 organization and I’m also a volunteer youth coach. I am proficient in talking to organizations and emailing companies to help as many athletes as I can obtain their goals.

REGISTERED NURSE, DEKALB MEDICAL CENTER – IN-PATIENT REHAB, DECATUR, GA

NOVEMBER, 2016 – FEBRUARY, 2017

Responsible for up to 8 patients on any given day. Duties included caring for patients with disabilities that would include strokes, traumatic brain injuries, joint replacement, debility, and wound care. I was well versed in helping patients stick to their physical, occupational, and speech therapy programs. I knew the different diets and consistencies of food a patient could have. I was trained on fall prevention methods and know how to properly use a Posey alarm. I had a good rapport with the medical staff, therapists and co-workers alike. The unit still received medical patients however, they were more stable than those on the general med-surg units.

REGISTERED NURSE, EASTSIDE MEDICAL CENTER, SNELLVILLE, GA

OCTOBER, 2015 – OCTOBER, 2016

Responsible for up to 6 patients on any given day on a general medical-surgical floor with a total of 44 beds. Duties include patient assessments, daily medication dispensing, communication with doctors, patient and family, and other nursing staff. Responsible for starting IV’s on new patients and changing them after 3 days to prevent infection and on occasion I had to draw my patients’ blood and send it to the lab. Preform both admission and discharge assessments on patients. Prioritize care of patients and their needs. Obtaining and following through on orders given verbally and/or by phone by the medical staff. Recognizing when a patient becomes in distress and putting all interventions into place in order to take care of the problem before it becomes acute. Having great teamwork in order to accomplish daily goals. Preformed “charge nurse” duties. I have received 3 “Daisy” award for nursing excellence.

I gained experience in patient education due to the fact that many of the patient’s lives were never going to be the same once they were discharged. Family education was a key factor in improving patient recovery. A great rapport was developed with both patients and their families due to the fact that the average stay time was at least 2 months. I was employee of the month twice and received several “STAR” awards for nursing excellence.

REGISTERED NURSE, HOUSTON HEAL THCARE, WARNER ROBINS, GA SEPTEMBER. 2010 - DECEMBER, 2013 Responsible for up to 6 patients on any given day on an 18 bed medical surgical unit. Duties included caring for medical surgical patients with Turp's, hysterectomies, amputations, gall bladder removal and many other surgical procedures. I was well versed in communication with the doctors and other members of my team. I was proficient in Foley insertion, accessing ports and picc lines. I was well educated with HIPPA and JACHO standards. Keeping my patient's safe and meeting the needs of their family were of top priority within this unit. I received over 15 accolades from patients and their families from the care I provided them.
