Mariaconcetta was born in Solarino, a small village close to Siracusa, one of the most ancient Greek colonies in the Mediterranean area. She graduated in 2006 with honors in Modern Italian Language and Literature from the University of Catania. In 2009 she specialized in Teaching Italian to Foreigners with the DITALS level 1 certification and DITALS level 2 and the DITALS level 1 during a postgraduate programme at the University of Foreigners in Siena. Mariaconcetta did an internship from November to December 2008 at the Italian Institute of Culture of London as italian teacher to adults, in order to took DITALS 1 and DITALS 2 level; after that she started to made some experiences as Italian Teacher, as a freelance, to foreigners until 2013.
In October 2013 Maria moved to Casablanca, she started working as a homeroom elementary teacher in the Enrico Mattei School, the unique Italian Institutional school in Morocco, she has taught Italian language, social studies, math and science in different grades. At the same time, she has taught Italian Language at the Dante Alighieri Association, to adults and university Moroccan students. During these years, she made an online professional development in language teaching for students with special needs, at Ca`Foscari University. For a few years, In Casablanca, she has taught Italian language in Enel Green Power, where she had the possibility to have as a student the staff and as well the CEO Morocco for Enel.
Maria in 2019 decided to take a gap year from work; she came back in Italy, to Modena, and there she had the great opportunity to make an experience as an elementary teacher in a Raggio Emilia school inspired, “EducatioNest”. During this experience Maria discovered the Reggio Emilia way of teaching; in the school Maria worked side by side with an American colleague who shared with her how Reggio works and they created, together, the linguistic path for the student in the 2019/2020 scholar year. In September 2020 Maria is back in Morocco for her last scholar year in the Italian school. After that she moved to Italy where she started to work in the Italian public school as Italian and social studies teacher for Grade 6th to 8th and some level of the high school. In her free time, she teaches Italian to adults for a language online school called LIngualearn, because she loves teaching her language to foreigners, meeting new people from all over the world and comparing herself with different cultures. She loves to travel, meeting her friends, going to the cinema, reading, going to the arts exhibitions, listening to music and cooking some typical Italian dishes.
Maria loves her job. She moved abroad two weeks ago in order to teach her native language in Bucharest, at the International Italian school “Aldo Moro” She would be glad to be part of a new project in Italy, where she can put in practice her skills, increasing her professional path, be part of a new one project and meeting and compare herself with other colleagues from others countries
