WORK EXPERIENCE
Over 33 years of Clinical Laboratory Scientist experience in 5 high volume acute care hospital laboratories and 3 high volume clinical reference laboratories in the following areas: Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Point-of-Care Testing, Blood Bank, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, Toxicology and Microbiology; Over fifteen years Blood Bank experience of which more than five years work experience in two Level I Trauma hospitals for children and adults in Oakland and in a Level II Trauma hospital for adults in La Jolla. Combined eighteen years work experience as a Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist at Kaiser Regional Laboratory in Immunochemistry, Toxicology and Special Chemistry.
Acute care hospital laboratory experience includes providing management, supervision, and training to reference, hospital and clinic site’s laboratory staff; coordinating and maintaining laboratory quality control, Point-of-Care Testing, and quality assurance programs; drafting and updating laboratory policies and procedures; updating and maintaining the Laboratory Information System; investigating procedural and instrumentation problems. Additional experience includes managing staff schedule, competency, and evaluation; timekeeping through KP Time and Kronos; hiring; ordering and processing of invoices for supplies, reagents, and minor equipment; coordinating equipment maintenance and service contracts; providing and promoting excellent customer service for all internal and external customers; developing and maintaining technical support functions.
Additional experience includes supervision of the IFOBT, Urine Chemistry, PEP/IFE, Hemoglobinopathy, LCMS, RAST sections of Special Chemistry, managing the day-to-day operations of the night shift Microbiology Specimen Processing Section, and oversight of the Vallejo Medical Center clinical laboratory and Pathology operations; facility Education Coordinator for the San Francisco State University CLS program. Labor management partnership experience includes being a Local 20 union representative for the Regional Laboratory on the night shift.
Extensive experience with Labor Management Partnership relations with SEIU-UHW. Excellent experience as the Unit Based Team management co-lead for the night shift Microbiology Specimen Processing at the Berkeley Regional Laboratory and the Vallejo Medical Center clinical laboratory completing 44 UBT projects in a span of 4 years in the areas of efficiency, workplace safety, attendance, cost management, employee well-being and team engagement. Extensive experience with process improvement tolls such as Brainstorming, CDM, RIM/PDSA, 6s, run charts and RCA tools such as Fishbone Diagram, 5 Whys and the Pareto chart. Successful team nomination and attendance to the Institute of Healthcare Improvement virtual conference in December 2020.
