2022 - Present Procurement Director
Medi-Dyne Healthcare Products – Colleyville, Tx.
Oversee all phases of the Purchasing Department: purchasing, forecasting, inventory control and supply chain (domestic and international). Evaluated the Sage 100 MRP report to ensure proper settings aligned with the necessary order points. Developed and implemented purchasing strategies such as creating my own Excel forecasting tool, readjusting order points, evaluation of inventory and sales history, identifying aging inventory, and adhering to the proper Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Report directly to one of the owners. Leadership impact:
• Re-evaluated reorder points and safety stocks, which enabled the use of JIT inventory management methods.
• Created a new warehouse system to easily identify, locate, and verify inventory placement and quantities.
• Explored ways to cut costs by negotiating with current and new vendors, finding more efficient ways to package and ship merchandise, while striving to maintain or improve not just productivity but never compromising the overall product quality.
• Lowered over $200K in inventory dollars within the first year. 2022 – 2021 Purchasing Manager
USA Shade & Fabric Structures – DFW Airport, Tx.
Oversaw all phases of the Purchasing Department: purchasing, forecasting, inventory control and supply chain (domestic and international). Implemented a Kanban system, as the IT team was working on an MRP system, to assist in the ordering process. Lead a purchasing team of 3 workers and helped identify the ordering for steel, galvanized materials, and paint. Managed daily purchasing activities, supervised staff and allocated tasks. Managed supplier relations and negotiated contracts/prices. Communicated with the Sales team and Warehouse Manager to determine all upcoming projects and any additional materials that will be needed. Verified that all procured items met or exceeded the required standards or specifications. Worked to improve purchasing processes, prepared cost estimates and managed budgets. Put lockers in the shop area to manage the MRO side, helping in controlling cost and waste of materials and tools. Reported to the Procurement Director.
Leadership impact:
• Utilized a Kanban system for ordering HSS (High-Speed Steel) steel, galvanized materials, and paint to reduce lead times and avoid stock outs.
• Identified waste on standard steel sizes by identifying new steel lengths, which resulted in $35K within a year.
• Renegotiated fabric cost for our steel structures with an international vendor that resulted in $50K saving within 2 months.
• Introduced DMAIC process to organization to recognize issues and streamline processes more fluidly.
2020 – 2017 Procurement Manager
Premier Designs, Inc. – Irving, Tx.
Directed all phases of the Purchasing Department: purchasing, forecasting, inventory control and supply chain (domestic and international). Assessed vendor products and maintained positive vendor relationships to receive the best pricing on end products, components, and services. Defined clear job tasks and objectives to 4 team members within the procurement department. Trained and assisted staff to execute a smooth transition of a newly developed MRP/ERP system. Monitored lead times and flagged any potential issues that needed to be addressed. Recommended mark-up rates and selling prices for products. Communicated with the marketing team, operations director, and the distribution center to align goals on upcoming promotions. Assisted our sister company, Premier Manufacturing Inc., in ordering and sent daily spreadsheets to determine their weekly schedule. Reported directly to the company’s President and disclosed any important information daily. Leadership impact:
• Achieved on time delivery across all vendors and outbound distribution orders with less than 5% backorder ratios.
• Successfully directed all supply chain and forecasting activities with an average of 10 inventory turns per year from 2017 – 2020.
• Oversaw the consolidation of freight for multiple domestic/international vendors to maintain price break requirements, while reducing inventory levels and customer backorders.
2016 – 2012 Assistant Manager of Procurement
Premier Designs, Inc. – Irving, Tx.
Assisted the procurement manager in obtaining short-term and long- term business objectives. Worked with company vendors to determine scheduling, planning, and logistics of products. Evaluated that the best practices were used to determine that every business deal based on price, quality, delivery dates and other business endeavors were researched prior to proceeding. Attended daily production meetings and reported any shipment delays, product delivery, and anything that may disrupt any facet of the company. Worked closely with the accounting department to ensure vendors billed correctly. Resolved any discrepancies identified by the distribution team when shipments were wrong.
Leadership impact:
• Was the contact person for most of the company’s departments. Lead to better communication and productivity improvement.
• Created uniform bid and spec sheets for Procurement and Marketing to see on a SharePoint document. Very transparent and always looking for continuous improvement.
• Provided better inventory control methods and assisted others in learning how to identify/correct any foreseeable issues.
• Worked at Premier Designs for 25 years in various roles, until their unfortunate closing.
