As a PACU nurse, we care for patients who are recovering from anesthesia post surgery and monitor post surgery vital signs, assess levels of consciousness and carefully observe patients for any side effects from anesthesia. We also update family members with vital information on the status of the procedure performed and how the patient has reacted and handled the anesthesia.
My skills enable me to work in a fast paced environment and to work quickly. We work with a wide variety of patients including heart catheterizations, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology, podiatry, GYN surgeries, eye surgery and pediatrics.
In my scope of practice as an RN we are also required to administer medications as prescribed by the physician, change dressings as needed keeping them clean dry and safe.and also give proper discharge instructions to both patient and family members.
As a PACU nurse you need to have several critical and soft skills to perform a job well… including open lines of communication, be detailed oriented and most importantly critical thinking skills.
Patient Access Specialist RN - Avow Hospice; Naples FL — 2020- 2021
Responsible for supporting seamless patient transition into our care by interfacing with hospitals,healthcare facilities, physicians and families.
Help coordinate and process patient referrals.
Act as the primary contact person for the patient and family members.
Gather pertinent patient information for referrals and admissions.
Assess patient at private homes, nursing care facilities and hospitals to help doctors determine proper admission criteria.

Review billing procedure with patient/family prior to admission and answer all related questions.

care instructions including JP drains, Foley catheters and wet to dry dressing changes to name a few.
