Worked as a corrections nurse at the Denver County Jail at their two locations- Downtown Denver and Smith Rd. Performed intakes when patients came through Booking and performed medication distribution, medical checks such as Opiate, Alcohol and Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Checks, along with diabetic monitoring and insulin administration per provider orders. Attended and facilitated with Code Blue and Emergencies throughout the jail as needed and placed emergent IV’s and medication administration until emergency services arrived to transport the patient to Denver Health. From 1992 to 2004, my duties involved treating premature and sick full-term infants as a level III and level IV Neonatal NICU Nurse. My PIV expertise in the NICU lead me to become a Vascular Access Nurse where I developed an appreciation for the importance of infection control prevention practices. My journey to attain my BSN in addition to implementing evidence-based research practices has been instrumental in decreasing NICU infection rates.
