CASA OF Mobile, Inc. Court Appointed Special Advocate for Abused and Neglected Children.
March 2014 – August 2016 Mobile, AL
I served in this position as a volunteer for over a year. Duties included meeting with the child or children that has been assigned by the Court because of a suspicion of abuse or neglect. I would do a home visit to see the living arrangements of the child/children. This to see if sleeping arrangements are adequate and to also see if the home has a food source for the child/children. Therefore, school is a place to visit and speak with the teachers, friends, neighbors etc... This resource is very much needed and vitally important.
Mission: Mobile County CASA screens, trains, supervises qualified, court appointed, community volunteers. These volunteers advocate for the best interest of the children and youth who are before the court because of abuse and neglect.
LIFE Of Mississippi Living Independent for Everyone

I served as an Independent Living Specialist as a volunteer while at Southern Mississippi.
What We Do: In recent years, LIFE has successfully provided five core services of Independent Living.
1.Information and Referral- Almost 10,000 people received access to available services,
2.Peer Support- Over 2,000 individuals had the opportunity to speak with others living with disabilities and receive guidance and support.
3.Advocacy- Close to 2,000 people were informed of their rights and assisted in obtaining help from available sources.
4.Skilled Training- Instruction on how to live independently was provided to almost 1,200 people.
5.Community Transition- In the past 8 years, LIFE has assisted over 150 people transition from nursing homes back into their community.

Disability Advocate

I served as Disability Advocate, demonstrating strong independent work ethic, utilized time management skills to effectively balance multiple responsibilities -Employed psychology knowledge to understand and address individual needs. Demonstrated strong decision-making abilities in complex situations. We were apart of Urban development that sought to assist the disabled, and seniors with home repairs through grants and other sources. Particularly after Katrina. Our mayor provided some 3000 weather radios from NOAA that along with emergency management, I installed by going into the senior and low-income communities and explaining how and when they would be issued out and getting a actual figure on how many would be needed.

In the community service position, I worked at precinct where, I took walk-in complaints, sworn complaints and communicated with the public on city ordinances. We were involved with the community to foster a relationship that would serve both our agendas. We helped with setting up neighborhood watch programs and speaking engagements with communities we served.

My sworn duty was to maintain custody and control of the convicts in the care of The State of Mississippi (MDOC). Parchman, Miss. I worked at Camp 14 RID/Reception Center. I worked both inside and outside the camp. While inside on many occasions, I was OIC (Officer in Charge). We counted every hour, canteen, phone calls, cleanup, dinner, and shower. In any given night we could have visitors, movies and or Bible study. I finished the academy in June of 1987.
