PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Surgical:
First and second assist at surgery in the following areas: General, Trauma, Colorectal, Plastics, Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular, Orthopaedic, Urologic, and Ob-Gyn Surgeries. Managed pre- and post-operative care of inpatients on Surgical Service. Participated on "Trauma Code" team, responding to a variety of severe and life- threatening injuries arriving to ED, including MVA's, stabbings, gunshot wounds. Managed various acute medical and surgical problems on inpatients at all hours during in-house call, including ICU responsibilities.
Performed diagnostic/therapeutic interventions and procedures, such as starting IV's, blood draws, suturing and wound care, bedside debridements, I & D of fluid collections, and other procedures.
Performed H & P's on patients for admission to Surgical Service, including remote advising of Attending Surgeons as to advisability of admission for ER patients. Ambulatory:
Developed high degree of self-reliance and clinical judgment as head of clinical team at rural satellite clinic.
Conducted triage; provided acute care for a variety of major minor illnesses and trauma.
Performed various therapeutic procedures, such as immunizations, I & Ds, suturing and wound care, splinting & immobilization of injured extremities, IV rehydration, treatment of acute allergic reactions.
Evaluation, diagnosis, treatment of walk-in clinic patients, seeing from 25-40+/shift. Stabilized and coordinated transfer for seriously ill/injured patients from satellite clinic to hospital Emergency Department.
Educational:
Supervised and trained PA students on clinical rotation in my department. Conducted patient education; advised patients on lifestyle changes needed to help their recovery; and advised patients on preventative health care. Informal training/education of nursing and other support staff. Organizational:
Revised departmental forms to help streamline paper flow, decrease waste, and improve clarity of forms.
Reviewed and recommended for purchase new medical texts for departmental reference library.
